Introduction

ERIS MORN RETURNS

As the heroes of the last safe city turn their attention to the far-reaching frontiers of our galaxy, new Nightmares have emerged from an ancient evil that once slumbered beneath the Lunar surface.

Awakened by the curiosity of Eris Morn, this evil poses a sinister threat far beyond her understanding.

Return to the Moon. Journey deep into a mysterious Hive Keep. Work with Eris to slay the Nightmares before they cast humanity into an age of darkness for good.

Changes

With the new Armor 2.0 system, Armor Perks are gone and the players themself decide which benefits they receive from their gear with the use of Mods. All armor now drops with randomized stats and elemental types, the latter determine which Mods a piece of armor can use. Special Universal Armor Ornaments can be applied to any Legendary armor piece obtained after Shadowkeep's release.

Weapon Mods are no longer consumable, just like the new Armor Mods. When the player obtains a Mod, it is unlocked in their collection and can be used on any appropriate piece of gear without being consumed.

Three more character stats are added to the game: Discipline, Intellect, and Strength. A character's Discipline determines their grenade recharge rate, Intellect determines their Super recharge rate, and Strength determines the melee ability recharge rate. Additionally, all stats now go from 0 to 100.

Armor is now Masterworked using new materials: Enhancement Prisms and Ascendant Shards, which can be obtained mainly from Nightfall strikes. Infusion now consumes Upgrade Modules along with the Infused item.

Quickplay and Competitive playlists are removed from the Crucible. The players instead can access Control, Survival and two Rotator playlists. The Shattered Throne Dungeon is now available at all times and can be launched and reset from the Director. Black Armory Forges are now accessible only through a playlist in the EDZ, and rotate daily.

Special repeatable bounties can be bought from certain vendors for a significant amount of Glimmer for as many times as the player likes, but there is a limit to how much of them a character can hold at a time.

Bright Dust is now earned by completing Crucible, Gambit, and Vanguard weekly and repeatable bounties. It is no longer obtained by dismantling Eververse items, and is not required to reclaim these items from the collection. Players can now store up to 250,000 Glimmer.

Suraya Hawthorne now sells Raid Banners.

Overview

Shadowkeep introduces a new Story Campaign and a patrol zone on the Moon. New activities include a raid, the Garden of Salvation, a dungeon, the Pit of Heresy, a horde mode public event, the Altars of Sorrow, and strike-like missions, the Nightmare Hunts.

Eris Morn and the Lectern of Enchantment are the new vendors, both can be found on the Moon, although the latter has to be unlocked by playing the story.

New Nightfall type, the Ordeal is a challenging version of a strike, featuring special Champion enemies which can be defeated with the use of certain Seasonal Mods, and a large amount of modifiers that make the activity even harder. There are several difficulties, each has a certain power requirement.

Content

Like Forsaken, Shadowkeep's launch begins a new year in Destiny 2. Year 3 includes four seasons, but most of their content retired with a season's end, so the base Shadowkeep content is not quite tied to any season.
