Seasons
Seasons are a concept that divides Destiny 2's content into separate periods of time. They will be replaced by Episodes with the release of The Final Shape.[1]

Overview
Seasons
Each Season introduces new content in the form of a storyline and activities, and adds new weapons, armor and other items into the game. New Seasons are used by Bungie to introduce the biggest changes to the game. This means that big alterations in gameplay and mechanics will not happen mid-season. However, some balance tweaks will still be introduced during the Seasons themselves.
At the beginning of each Season, Clan progress is reset to zero. This mechanic is meant to give a fighting chance to newer clans, instead of them trying to catch up with older, more experienced ones. Clan perks for leveling up also change every Season, depending on its current theme. For example, the first season focused on the Cabal and had a perk which improved rewards from eliminating Cabal enemies.
In Shadowkeep, most of the content introduced in a Season was removed when it ended. In Beyond Light, seasonal content stays until the next expansion is released. Players keep items they have obtained and unlocked in their collection. Since every character begins the game at max level, experience is used to level a Season Pass, which contains rewards like seasonal weapons, armor, ornaments, or useful resources. Players that have invested into the Season Pass gain full access to a Season's content. Others receive only free Season Pass rewards.
Season 8 also brought the Seasonal Artifacts, which are used to obtain Artifact Perks and increase the character's power level in the current Season.
Episodes
During the 2023 Destiny 2 Showcase, it was announced that the seasonal model will be replaced with "Episodes" with the release of The Final Shape. Episodes will be larger content releases that will last around 4 months, rather than 3. Each Episode will be divided into three "Acts." Acts will release 6 weeks apart from each other, with each Act bringing new content.[1]
