Clans
What are Clans
Clans are optional groups you can join to expand your list of cooperative partners without bulking up your friends list. Your clan's roster is displayed next to your list of friends so you can see who is online. This is designed to give you easy access to a community of players that regularly team up to complete activities.
How to Join / Create a Clan
At the moment, creating your own clan is only available on the website. Simply go to bungie.net, login with your playstation, xbox, or battlenet ID, and click the Clan tab.
Here you can enter the basic information about your clan and create it. Once it is formed you can design your clan banner by going to Settings, Edit Banner. You can edit your banner and other settings through the app as well.
- NOTE: On the app you will need to tap the banner icon in the top corner of the screen.
These are the available banner customization options.
They are limited to preset designs and color choices.
Within General Settings you can setup the permissions of which roles can initiate Guided Games and Promote/Demote your members.
Available roles are:
- Founder
- Admin
- Member
- Beginner
If you don’t want to worry with running your own clan you can easily search for an established one.
Leveling Up Clan
Players can level up their clan by earning Clan XP from completing Story Missions, Meditations, Strikes, Public Events, Patrol Missions, Crucible, Raids and Adventures. Clan XP gains are displayed for all members playing at the time the Clan XP is earned, not just for the player that earned it. Clan XP is limited to 100,000 per week.

Guided Games
Even if you are a solo player who isn't interested in joining a clan, the new in-game functionality will still be relevant to you.
Guided Games are the in-game alternative to the third party LookingForGoup (LFG) sites/tools players needed for Destiny 1. This will allow a clan to host an event (like a raid) and open it up for solo players to join and complete the activity. This should make it much easier for a larger portion of the playerbase to complete all of the game's content.
Preparing Clans for Destiny 2
The purpose of this process is to prepare existing Destiny communities for the new Clan features introduced in Destiny 2. A part of this process requires splitting the Group and Clan features of the Destiny Companion Web and Mobile App. Please see below for more information on preparing Clans for Destiny 2 and a list of frequently asked questions.
Action Needed by Group Founders
Starting on July 26, 2017, Group Founders will be presented with a support flow to help guide them through the process of preparing their Group and Clan for the new Destiny 2 Clan features.
- Only the Group Founders of Groups that have an associated Clan will be eligible to complete the process
- Group Founders can visit their Clan homepage and choose the Edit Settings button on the banner at the top of the page to begin the process and choose one of the options described below
- Group Founders will have until August 23, 2017 to choose their desired option
- Every Group with an associated Clan will default to one of the two available options based on Clan membership as described below
- Group Founders can change the selected option an unlimited number of times until August 23, 2017, at which time the currently selected option will go into effect
Options
Starting on July 26, 2017, Group Founders can choose one of two options for the Clan associated with their Group. The Group Founders can change the selected option an unlimited number of times until August 23, 2017, at which time the currently selected option will go into effect
Option A: Upgrade to a Destiny 2 Clan
This option is recommended for smaller communities (3 - 100) where the majority of Group members are also Clan members. If this is the currently selected option on August 23, 2017, the following will go into effect:
- The associated Group will be deleted
- The forum history and chat history of the Group will be transferred to the Destiny 2 Clan
Option B: Remain a Group
This option is recommended for large communities (100+) where most of the Group members are not also Clan members. If this is the currently selected option on August 23, 2017, the following will go into effect:
- The Clan is deleted
- The Clan Roster is removed
- The Clan name is reserved to the user that was set as the Clan Founder
- The forum and chat history will remain a part of the Group and will not be transferred with the Clan name reservation
Default Settings
To help prevent issues that may be caused by absent Group Founders, every Group with an associated Clan will default to one of the two available options based on Clan membership.
- Groups with 50% or more of their members in the associated Clan will default to the "Upgrade to a Destiny 2 Clan" option which removes the Group and prepares the Clan for the new Destiny 2 Clan features
- Groups with less than 50% of the members in the associated Clan will default to the "Remain a Group" option which preserves the Group, removes the Clan, and reserves the Clan name to the Clan Founder
Clan Name Reservations
For communities that chose to remain as a Group, the associated Clan name will be reserved for future use by the Clan Founder. If the "Remain a Group" option is the currently selected option on August 23, 2017, the following with go into effect:
- The user currently designated as the Clan Founder will hold the Clan name reservation
- The Clan name reservation can be used to create a new Destiny 2 Clan
- The Clan name reservation will expire on September 20, 2017
- The Clan will be considered newly created and will not retain or reference any of the Group's forum or chat history

Any other user that attempts to create a Clan with the reserved name will receive an error message saying that the reserved Clan name is already in use.
When will Destiny 2 Clans have access to the new Destiny 2 Clan features?
- On August 23, 2017, Bungie.net and the Destiny Companion Mobile App will undergo maintenance to apply the chosen options to existing Groups and Clans. How will the conversion to Destiny 2 Clans on Bungie.net and the Companion App impact Destiny 1 and Legacy Console players?
- On August 23, 2017, Bungie.net and the Destiny Companion Mobile App will undergo maintenance. At this time, Destiny 1 and the Legacy Consoles will no longer be able to access their Character data on Bungie.net or the Companion App. They will still be able to join, leave, interact, create, and delete Groups and Clans.
- Players in Destiny 1 will still be able to see their Clan name, Clan tag, and Clan roster in-game. However, the new in-game Clan features introduced in Destiny 2 will not be available while playing Destiny 1. Additionally, players on the Legacy Consoles will not have access to the in-game Clan Roster feature introduced in Destiny: Rise of Iron.
How will the process impact Groups that have two associated Clans?
- Group Founders for Groups that have more than one Clan will need to keep the follow information in mind while choosing one of the options for their Group:
- The chosen option will apply to both Clans and cannot be set separately for the individual Clans
- The Group Founder must designate Clan Founders for each Clan and each Clan is required to have a different user designated as the Clan Founder
- The Group Founder can edit the Clan names and designated Clan Founders in the Clan Roster on Bungie.net
How will this process impact large communities that have more than one Group founded by one person?
- All Groups with an associated Clan must go through the process that prepares them to become a Destiny 2 Clan. For these large communities with multiple Groups and Clans, it is recommended that the original Group (or Group with the most members) remains as a Group with the Clan name reserved for the user set as the Clan Founder, while the rest of the community's Groups are converted to Clans.
- Please note: Each Clan is required to have a different user designated as a Clan Founder. As such, the community leaders will need to accommodate this requirement in their plans for administering the various Groups and Clans after the conversion process.
What will happen if the Group Founder is absent or does not chose one of the available options by August 23, 2017?
- Every Group with an associated Clan will default to one of the two options based on Clan Membership. As such, if a Group Founder is absent or has not chosen an option by August 23, 2017, an option will be chosen for the group based on the following criteria:
- Groups with 50% or more of their members in the associated Clan will default to the "Upgrade to a Destiny 2 Clan" option which removes the Group and prepares the Clan for the new Destiny 2 Clan features
- Groups with less than 50% of the members in the associated Clan will default to the "Remain a Group" option which preserves the Group, removes the Clan, and reserves the Clan name to the Clan Founder
Besides the split between Groups and Clans, what other changes will be introduced to Groups after August 23, 2017? Update 8/3/2017
- After August 23, 2017, the majority of Group functionality will no longer be accessible on the Destiny Companion Mobile App. Players on the Mobile app will still be able to read and contribute to Group chats that have at least one message already sent on Bungie.net. All other Group functionality, including Forums, Administration, Rosters, and General Settings will remain available on Bungie.net.
How will the split between Groups and Clans impact Alliances?
- Alliances will be disabled after Bungie.net and the Destiny Companion Mobile App undergo maintenance on August 23, 2017. The Alliance feature may be revisited at a future date.
