Season of the Witch is the 22nd Season in Destiny 2. It takes place from August 22 to November 28, 2023.[1]

Introduction

A Ritual Begins

To pursue the Witness, Eris Morn must turn to the magic of the Hive and accept a deal that Savathûn crafted before her death. To honor our end of the bargain, Guardians must become masters of the arcane and harness the power required to defeat a god.[1]

An Exotic Mission rotator has been added to the game. The weekly rotation includes three missions that have been unvaulted: Presage from the Season of the Chosen, Vox Obscura from the Season of the Risen, and Operation: Seraph's Shield from the Season of the Seraph. Each mission can be accessed by players who own the Season Pass from the original season. Otherwise, the Beyond Light expansion is required to access Presage, while The Witch Queen is required to access Vox Obscura and Operation: Seraph's Shield. Each mission's Exotic weapon is now craftable, with its Pattern and Catalyst(s) obtained through the mission. Legendary gear from past seasons will also drop from these missions. Completing Exotic Missions will give progress on Xûr's weekly Xenology quest.[2]

A new quest, Unveiled, can be obtained from Nimbus after completing the Parting the Veil quest. It unlocks a new Strand Aspect: Banner of War for Titans, Whirling Maelstrom for Hunters, and Weavewalk for Warlocks.

The Timeline menu, accessed from the top-right corner of the Destinations screen, now features three free story missions that cover important moments from previous expansions in the lead-up to The Final Shape. Ikora Rey offers a new Timeline Reflection quest that requires the player to complete these missions. Additional cinematics can be viewed from the Timeline screen.

Stasis subclass upgrades have been changed to use the same system as Ikora Rey and the Pouka Pond. Aspects, Fragments, and other upgrades can be purchased from the Exo Stranger using Glimmer. Aspect quests each give 5 Herealways Pieces when completed instead of their old rewards. Fragment quests have been removed.

The engram upgrades for Fynch in Savathûn's Throne World and Nimbus in Neomuna will now improve the chance to earn Deepsight Resonance weapon drops from their respective engrams. The Neomuna weekly story mission challenge will give guaranteed Pattern progress on the first completion in a week.

Weekly ritual activity (Vanguard, Crucible, and Gambit) challenges have been changed to no longer require playing a specific ritual activity. Instead, players can complete ritual activities of any type, earning a focusable Exotic Engram at 3, 6, and 9 matches completed across all three categories. Ritual vendor challenges from Commander Zavala, Lord Shaxx, and the Drifter now give Pinnacle Gear rewards.

A new Vex Network-themed Crucible map, Multiplex, has been released. Iron Banner challenges have been split into two separate series: one grants Iron Banner Rank multipliers for completing matches, while the other requires earning points while using a seasonal subclass (specified in the description) for Pinnacle rewards. Both challenges have 4 tiers, with a new tier unlocked daily.

An alternate method for leveling crafted weapons has been added. On the Details screen, players can spend Glimmer and Enhancement Cores to increase a weapon's level by 1, with greater costs at higher levels.

A new Resources section has been added to Collections, detailing the various materials and currencies found throughout the game. Ascendant Shards, Ascendant Alloys, and Enhancement Prisms have had their inventory caps increased. These items will no longer go to the Postmaster, but those already stored there can be claimed at any time.

A catalyst for Monte Carlo has been added. It can drop from strikes, Crucible, and Gambit.
