Ascendant Shard is a Material Consumable. It has a maximum capacity of 30.

Acquisition

• Can be purchased from Master Rahool.
• Uncommon drop from Master Nightfall strikes.
• Common drop from Grandmaster Nightfall strikes.
• Possible drop from Master raids and dungeons.
• 1 is rewarded for resetting rank for the first time with each of the following vendors, which can be done once per Season:
  • Banshee-44;
  • Commander Zavala;
  • Lord Saladin;
  • Lord Shaxx;
  • Saint-14;
  • The Drifter.
• 1 is rewarded for resetting rank for the first time with each of the following vendors:
  • Xûr in his Treasure Hoard;
  • War Table (requires Season of Defiance Season Pass);
  • Sonar Station (requires Season of the Deep Season Pass);
  • Ritual Table (requires Season of the Witch Season Pass);
  • Spirit of Riven (requires Season of the Wish Season Pass).
• Can be earned as rewards from the Season Pass seasonal rank rewards track (usually 3 per season).
• During holiday Live Events, 1 Ascendant Alloy and 1 Ascendant Shard are usually rewarded for completing all Event Challenges before the end of the event.

Usage

• Used for upgrading armor. 1 is required to fully upgrade a normal armor item, while 3 are required to fully upgrade an Exotic armor item.
• Used for focusing Exotic Engrams into specific Exotic armor items at Master Rahool.
• Used to purchase items from the Monument to Lost Lights in the Tower.
• Used to purchase the Hawkmoon Exotic Hand Cannon from Xûr.

  • Ascendant Shards, Ascendant Alloys, and Enhancement Prisms no longer go to the Postmaster, but any that were with the Postmaster are still recoverable. Ascendant Alloys and Ascendant Shards now have a cap of 30. Enhancement Prisms have a new cap of 100.
