Operation: Seraph's Shield is an Exotic Mission originally introduced in Season of the Seraph (Season 19) of Destiny 2 on December 20, 2022. [1] [2] [3] Guardians were tasked with infiltrating the orbital Seraph Station above Earth to upload a Warmind virus, preventing Eramis and her House of Salvation Fallen, along with Xivu Arath's Hive forces, from taking control of the Warsat network. [1] [4] The mission was intrinsically linked to The Hidden Shape Exotic quest, which awarded the Revision Zero Exotic Pulse Rifle upon first completion, unlocking its Pattern for Weapon Shaping. [2] [5] Further completions originally awarded intrinsic upgrades for the weapon. [5] The mission also featured Legend difficulty, required for the "Should You Choose to Accept It" quest series to unlock catalysts for Revision Zero. [6] [5]
Initially accessed from the H.E.L.M. after progressing the More Than a Weapon seasonal storyline to Week 3 [2] [5], the mission was temporarily placed in the Destiny Content Vault with the launch of Lightfall. [7] It returned in Season of the Witch (Season 22) as part of the weekly Exotic Mission Rotator playlist, accessible via the Legends tab in the Director. [1] [8] [9] Its return allows players to acquire Revision Zero and its catalysts again, alongside a selection of craftable Seraph and IKELOS v1.0.3 weapons. [10] [1] [11]

[hide]Overview
Operation: Seraph's Shield tasks Guardians with assaulting Seraph Station, a BrayTech orbital platform controlling Rasputin’s Warsat network, to thwart Eramis and Xivu Arath. [1] [4] Launched on December 20, 2022, the mission features a mix of combat against Fallen, Hive, and Scorn, platforming (including a notable spacewalk segment), and puzzles. [12] [1] [3] It prominently revives mechanics inspired by the Deep Stone Crypt raid: the Scanner, Operator, and Suppressor Augments, used to bypass security, interact with specific objects, and disable enemy shields. [1] [10] Supporting 1-3 players, the mission typically takes 45-60 minutes to complete, though experienced players can finish significantly faster. [12] [13] [14] It offers significant replayability through its Normal and Legend difficulties and the pursuit of the craftable Revision Zero exotic, its catalysts, and associated seasonal weapons. [15] [11]
Plot Summary
Following intelligence gathered throughout Season of the Seraph, the Vanguard learns that Eramis and Xivu Arath are attempting to seize control of Rasputin's Warsat network via the long-dormant Seraph Station in Earth Orbit. [4] To prevent this catastrophic weapon system from falling into enemy hands, Ana Bray, Osiris, Clovis Bray I (speaking through the Exo Frame), and Mara Sov formulate a plan: a Guardian fireteam must infiltrate the station, navigate its defenses, battle the occupying House of Salvation and Hive forces, and upload a virus payload provided by Clovis. [2] [16] This virus is intended to grant Rasputin access to the network upon his eventual restoration. [2] The mission involves navigating treacherous pathways, utilizing Deep Stone Crypt-derived Augmentation protocols, surviving environmental hazards like security lasers and a perilous spacewalk, and intentionally getting captured as part of the infiltration plan. [1] [10] Along the way, Guardians face formidable foes, including Haroktha, Scourge of the Helium Drinkers, a powerful Hive Knight, and culminates in a final battle against Praksis, the Defiled, the Technocrat Praksis resurrected as a Scorn Baron. [1] [15] [4] Successfully uploading the virus marks the mission's completion, paving the way for the seasonal finale mission, Abhorrent Imperative. [17]
Mechanics
Operation: Seraph's Shield relies heavily on three core mechanics, known as Augments, acquired by defeating specific Fallen Splicer enemies or picked up from Augmentation Terminals.
- Scanner (Yellow): Allows the holder to see hidden information, such as which terminals need to be activated in sequence or specific objects to interact with (often glowing yellow). [10] [1]
- Operator (Red): Allows the holder to shoot red-glowing panels to open doors, disable laser grids, or create platforms. [10] [1]
- Suppressor (Blue): Allows the holder to make certain invulnerable enemies vulnerable. This is achieved by standing beneath specific hovering drones (usually three) while shooting the invulnerable target. [10] [1]
Guardians can only hold one Augment at a time. Augments can be deposited into and retrieved from white Augmentation Terminals found throughout the station, allowing players (especially solo) to swap roles as needed for puzzles. [10]

Walkthrough
The mission progresses through distinct sections of Seraph Station:
Infiltrate the Launch Facility
Guardians begin outside a terrestrial Warmind facility entrance, similar to the start of Operation: Archimedes. They must traverse an open area patrolled by Seraph Towers, using cover to avoid lethal orbital strikes triggered by prolonged exposure (a stacking debuff). [10] [20] [21] An Ogre guards the entrance but can be bypassed. [10] [21] Inside, navigate corridors laced with deadly laser grids by timing movements or sliding/jumping through gaps. [10] [21]
Engineering Sector
The first major room contains Fallen enemies, including a Vandal Splicer holding the Scanner buff. [2] [20] Defeat the enemies and acquire the Scanner buff. Use it to identify and activate three highlighted terminals in sequence to call down orbital launch pods. [10] [20] Enter a pod to travel to Seraph Station. [10]
Upon arrival, clear initial enemies and deposit the Scanner buff at an Augmentation Terminal. [10] Pick up the Scanner buff again from a defeated Splicer in the next area. Activate three more terminals; one requires shooting open and crawling through a vent. [10] Deposit the buff at a terminal across a chasm to proceed. [10]
The next puzzle requires coordination (or solo swapping). Acquire Scanner, note a highlighted console behind glass, then enter an overhead vent. [10] Drop the Scanner buff at a terminal, pick up the Operator buff from a defeated Splicer, and shoot a red panel on the ceiling to open a door. [10] Clear the newly opened room of enemies (including turrets), swap back to Scanner via another terminal, activate the console previously seen behind glass, and exit through a portal. [10] Deposit the buff to open the next door. [10]
Microwave Room & Suppressor Protocol
Navigate a hazardous "microwave" room by avoiding lethal energy pulses moving across the floor grid. Use the Scanner buff from the observation window above to see the safe path (which remains consistent, though terminal locations might vary). [20] [22] Following this, encounter a room containing an invulnerable Servitor guarding a spinning device and a Splicer holding the Suppressor buff. [10] [16] Acquire the Suppressor buff. To make the Servitor vulnerable, stand under each of the three floating drones in the room while shooting the Servitor. [10] [23] Once all three drones have been used (indicated by them lowering), the Servitor's shield drops. Destroy the Servitor and then shoot the spinning beacon it was guarding to proceed. [10] [15] Deposit the Suppressor buff at the terminal. [22]
First Boss Encounter: Haroktha, Scourge of the Helium Drinkers
Enter a large arena and initiate the fight by destroying explosive Ether tanks. [16] Damage Haroktha, Scourge of the Helium Drinkers, a powerful Hive Knight, until he becomes immune and retreats. [16] [19] Survive waves of Fallen reinforcements, including multiple Brigs and Tracer Shanks. Focusing down Brigs one at a time is crucial, especially on Legend difficulty where Devour effects or Restoration builds are highly recommended. [20] [19] Once all Fallen are defeated, Guardians are prompted to surrender and are captured, teleporting them to a Fallen Ketch. [16]
Escape the Ketch & Space Walk
Retrieve your weapons from a cache and fight your way through the Ketch, freeing allied Exo frames from cells along the way. [20] Reach the exterior of the Ketch and jump across space towards Seraph Station, avoiding mines. [10] Exit the station onto exterior platforms for a lengthy spacewalk section. Navigate platforms, avoiding large rotating station arms and enemy fire. [10] Partway through, acquire the Operator buff and shoot three red panels to extend further platforms needed to cross gaps. [10] Clear a wave of Shanks before entering the next interior section. [10] Deposit the Operator buff to proceed. [10]
Logistics Sector & Puzzles
Encounter Haroktha again in a smaller room; defeat him permanently this time to continue. [10] In the next area, acquire the Operator buff. Shoot panels to open doors on either side of a glass partition. [10] Enter one room, deposit Operator, and acquire Scanner. [10] Activate a console nearby, then cross to the other opened room (requiring another Operator shot if the door closed) and activate a second console. [10] This opens a third room containing ceiling turrets and another puzzle. Kill the turrets, identify which console is highlighted behind glass using the Scanner buff, then deposit the buff at a terminal. [10] Enter the newly opened room, jump to a balcony, and activate the terminal corresponding to the one identified earlier (activating the wrong one is lethal). [10] [20]
Climb a vertical shaft, destroying numerous Arc turrets along the way. [10] [21] Enter a large room containing more Fallen and turrets. Clear the enemies and acquire the Scanner buff upstairs. [10] [21] Identify three highlighted consoles through a window overlooking a floor grid puzzle room below. Memorize the highlighted path indicated on the floor grid. [10] [22] Enter the puzzle room (losing the Scanner buff) and navigate the grid by only stepping on the highlighted tiles. Touching incorrect tiles or the deadly lasers results in instant death. [10] [22] Activate the three consoles corresponding to the ones identified from above to disable security. [10]
Warsat Command Nexus Access
Acquire the Operator buff and shoot a red panel to open a door. [10] Navigate rooms filled with Hive enemies including Shriekers, Knights, and Cursed Thralls. Use the Operator buff to shoot panels (some accessed via vents or through slits in windows) to progress. [10] [20] [21] Defeat enemies, including a Servitor and a high-value Captain who drops a key required to proceed. [21] [13] Deposit the Operator buff at the terminal to enter the final boss arena. [13]
Final Boss: Praksis, the Defiled
The final encounter is against Praksis, the Defiled, the resurrected Praksis from Beyond Light, now a Scorn Baron. [1] [15] Damage Praksis until he becomes immune (roughly one-third of his health). [15] The room fills with Scorn adds, including dangerous Scorn Chieftains deploying protective totems and snipers. [15] Locate and acquire the Suppressor augment from a defeated Vandal, typically found on the upper catwalks. [15] Similar to the earlier Servitor encounter, stand under the three shielded drones hovering in the arena (left, right, middle) while shooting Praksis to break his immunity shield. [15] Once his shield drops, three vulnerable energy conduit beacons appear (left, right, middle); destroy these beacons to make Praksis vulnerable to damage again. [15] Repeat this cycle: damage Praksis, clear adds (prioritizing Chieftains and snipers), use the Suppressor augment on the drones/Praksis, and destroy the beacons until Praksis is defeated. [15] After the fight, proceed to the marked console to upload the virus and complete the mission. [15]
Rewards
Reward structures differ slightly between the original Season of the Seraph run and the current Exotic Mission Rotator version.
=Exotic Mission Rotator Rewards (Current)
- Revision Zero (Exotic Pulse Rifle): Awarded as a Deepsight weapon on the first completion of the mission (Normal or Legend) per account, unlocking its Pattern. [15] [24] [18]
- Revision Zero Intrinsic Upgrades: Each completion (Normal or Legend) awards an intrinsic upgrade material (e.g., Hunter's Trace II, III, IV) used when crafting Revision Zero at The Enclave. [10] [18]
- Revision Zero Catalysts: Each completion on Legend difficulty awards one of the four Catalyst trait upgrades for the crafted Exotic weapon. Four Legend completions are needed to unlock all catalysts (Frenzy Refit, Pressurized Refit, Outlaw Refit, 4-Timer Refit). [15] [18]
- Legendary Weapons: Each completion drops a random weapon from the Season of the Seraph loot pool, including Seraph weapons and IKELOS v1.0.3 weapons. All are potentially craftable. [10] [1] [11]
- Weekly Challenge Rewards: Completing the weekly challenge associated with the rotator mission grants Pinnacle Gear and prioritizes awarding Deepsight patterns for weapons you haven't unlocked, or armor pieces not yet obtained. [9] [24] [18] [26] Three guaranteed Red Border drops can be obtained weekly via the rotator challenges (first Normal clear, first Legend clear, accumulate points/completions). [9]
- Xûr Quest Progress: Completions grant bonus progress for the Xenology quest (4 points for Normal, 7 points for Legend). [24] [26]
Original Season of the Seraph Rewards (Historical)
- Revision Zero: Awarded via The Hidden Shape quest after the first completion. Acquired by speaking to the Exo Frame in the H.E.L.M.. [5]
- Revision Zero Intrinsic Upgrades: Hunter's Trace II, III, and IV dropped directly on the second, third, and fourth completions respectively. [5]
- Revision Zero Catalysts: Awarded by completing parts I-IV of the Should You Choose to Accept It quest chain, each requiring a Legend difficulty clear. [6] [5]
- Legendary Gear: Two chests appeared at the end. One dropped World Loot Pool gear, the other (once per week) dropped Season of the Seraph gear. Legend difficulty awarded more gear. [5]
- Exo Frame Reputation: 100 Reputation for Normal, 250 Reputation for Legend. [5]
- Enhanced Resonance Amp: Replaced the standard Resonance Amp after the first completion. [5]
- IKELOS v1.0.3 Weapons: 4 hidden Warmind Nodes within the mission could be activated using specific Override Frequencies obtained via the Enhanced Resonance Amp. Each node dropped a Deepsight IKELOS weapon once per account. [27] [5]
- Hidden Chests: Two hidden chests were available weekly, dropping Resonate Stems and a Season of the Seraph weapon. [10] [28] [29] [5] (Note: These specific chests were removed when the mission entered the Exotic Mission Rotator). [10]
- Security Drones: 12 Security Drones were hidden throughout the mission, destructible only with Revision Zero. Destroying them awarded Seraphic Umbral Energy. Destroying all 50 drones across the system unlocked a secret room after the spacewalk section. [30] [5] [31]
Collectibles (Original Run)
These collectibles were primarily relevant during Season of the Seraph and their associated rewards or functions are mostly unavailable in the Exotic Mission Rotator version.
- Security Drones: 12 of the 50 total seasonal Security Drones were located within Operation: Seraph's Shield. They required the Revision Zero Exotic Pulse Rifle to destroy. [30] [32] [33] Destroying all 50 across all destinations opened a secret door near the end of the mission's spacewalk section, revealing a message and allowing access to the Mechanical Dog. [30] [31]
- Warmind Nodes: 4 Warmind Nodes were hidden in the mission. [27] [34] [35] Activating them required the Enhanced Resonance Amp and a specific Override Frequency crafted using Resonate Stems. [27] [5] Each node awarded a Deepsight IKELOS v1.0.3 weapon once per account. [27] [5] The node locations corresponded to Override Frequency clues: Orbital.Engineering.Shaft.Platform [27] [36] [37], Orbital.Engineering.Servers.Columns [27] [36] [37], Orbital.Logistics.Foyer.Hall [36] [37] [38], and Orbital.Control.Nexus.Upload [35] [36] [37].
Secrets (Original Run)
These secrets were relevant during Season of the Seraph. The hidden chests associated with these secrets were removed when the mission returned in the Exotic Mission Rotator. [10]
- Hidden Chest 1 (Scanner Drones): In one of several possible rooms within the mission, a group of small, hovering drones would spawn. Using the Scanner buff, the Guardian had to identify and shoot the drones in the order they glowed yellow. [28] [29] [39] Successfully destroying the drones in the correct sequence would unlock a door in the final room (Warsat Control Nexus), revealing a chest. This was lootable once per week per account. [28] [29] [39] [40]
- Hidden Chest 2 (Laser Wall Bypass): In the area after the first Operator puzzle room (containing Shriekers and Knights), a wall of lasers blocked a dark side room. [28] [29] [39] Originally, bypassing these lasers required the Exo Frame's "Tactical Armor" upgrade, but abilities like Blink, sword swings (especially Eager Edge), or careful sliding could also work. [28] [29] [39] [40] The chest was located inside this dark room. This was lootable once per week per account. [28] [39] [40]
- Mechanical Dog (Archie): Behind the locked door opened by destroying all 50 Security Drones (located after the spacewalk section), players could find a mechanical dog, affectionately known as Archie. [41] Petting the dog granted the Guardian’s Best Friend and Yes, You Can Pet the Dog Triumphs. [41] While the original drones are gone, the dog may still be accessible in the rotator version if the door remains openable through other means or is simply left open.
Trivia
- Operation: Seraph's Shield is one of the few missions in Destiny 2 to feature a spacewalk segment with zero-gravity mechanics outside of a Raid. [10]
- The mission name refers to the protection ("Shield") of Rasputin (also known as "Seraph" in various Clovis Bray documentation).
- The mission heavily utilizes the Scanner, Operator, and Suppressor mechanics first introduced in the Deep Stone Crypt Raid. [1]
- During the original run, falling off the platforms during the spacewalk segment triggered a unique death animation similar to the Rag Doll emote. [5]
- The final boss, Praksis, the Defiled, is a revived Scorn version of Praksis, the Technocrat, a boss from the Beyond Light campaign encountered on Europa. [1]
Legacy
- Operation: Seraph's Shield was first revealed in the This Week at Bungie blog post on December 8, 2022, highlighted as a Deep Stone Crypt-inspired exotic mission tied to the season's narrative climax. [42]
- It served as the acquisition method for the unique Revision Zero Exotic Pulse Rifle, notable for its intrinsic anti-barrier capabilities and multiple catalyst options affecting its secondary sniper mode. [3] [43]
- The mission was placed into the Destiny Content Vault with the release of Lightfall in February 2023. [7]
- It was restored to the game in Season of the Witch (Season 22, August 2023) as part of the newly introduced Exotic Mission Rotator playlist, ensuring continued access to the mission and its associated Exotic weapon and loot. [1] [18]
Notes
- Security lasers instantly kill Guardians who touch them. Originally, the Tactical Armor upgrade from the Exo Frame allowed passage, but this upgrade is no longer available, making lasers lethal in the Rotator version. [10] Abilities like Blink or careful movement are required to bypass any mandatory laser sections (though most can be disabled or avoided).
- The mission can be completed solo, even on Legend difficulty, although enemy health and density scale slightly with fireteam size. Builds emphasizing survivability (e.g., Restoration, Devour, Woven Mail) and add-clear are highly recommended for solo Legend runs. [10] [19] [44]
- While checkpoints exist within the mission, leaving the activity requires restarting from the beginning. There is no join-in-progress functionality.
