The Scorn are undead Fallen, reanimated and twisted by Dark Ether into something far more savage than they were in life. Unlike the living Eliksni, the Scorn do not depend on Servitors or ordinary Ether; they destroy Servitors on sight, and they can rise again after death unless their bodies are completely destroyed. They are feral, unstable, and have thrown off the old codes of Eliksni society.

The first of the Scorn was Fikrul, a disgraced Eliksni Archon who gained the power to raise the dead. He built an army of reanimated Eliksni and, with the Awoken prince Uldren Sov, broke it loose during the Prison of Elders riot that opened Forsaken.

Nature

Each kind of Scorn is a grotesque mutation of a living creature, patched together with crude implants and improvised weapons. Many can return from death through Dark Ether, which makes them relentless in a long fight. They fight with almost no self-preservation, because death is rarely permanent for them.

The Scorn are an offshoot of the Fallen, not a part of them. They wage war on the living Houses for clinging to the old Eliksni ways, and they have no Prime Servitors of their own; the only use they have for a Servitor is to gut it for Dark Ether.

Origin

Fikrul was once an Archon Priest of the House of Wolves, cast out for preaching against the Great Machine and the Eliksni's dependence on Servitors. After he was mortally wounded, Uldren Sov wished him back to life through the Taken Ahamkara Riven, and Fikrul rose as the first Scorn. He then slaughtered and raised the dead to build his horde, and surrendered alongside Uldren so they could break out of the Prison of Elders from within.

History

The Scorn announced themselves in Forsaken by killing the Hunter Vanguard Cayde-6 during the prison break. Guardians hunted Fikrul's lieutenants, the Scorned Barons, across the Tangled Shore, and killed Uldren at the end of the chase. Fikrul kept returning from death, so the threat never fully ended.

In later years the Scorn served greater powers: they guarded the Disciple Rhulk in the raid Vow of the Disciple, fought under Calus and Xivu Arath, and spread through the Dreaming City. In Episode: Revenant, Fikrul gained an artifact that let him turn living Eliksni into Scorn, which finally forced the Fallen and the Vanguard to band together and kill him for good.

The Scorned Barons

Fikrul led a band of lieutenants, each with a theme and a grudge, who together helped kill Cayde-6:

  • Fikrul, the Fanatic: leader and first of the Scorn.
  • Elykris, the Machinist: Fikrul's second-in-command and munitions expert.
  • Hiraks, the Mindbender: enslaved a Hive brood and built his own realm.
  • Kaniks, the Mad Bomber: an explosives fanatic with mechanical limbs.
  • Reksis Vahn, the Hangman: a destroyer who wiped out the House of Wolves' Servitors.
  • Araskes, the Trickster: a saboteur and trap-layer.
  • Pirrha, the Rifleman: a sharpshooter who killed Cayde's Ghost.
  • Yaviks, the Rider: leader of the Scorn's Pike gang.

Combatants

The Scorn are aggressive and rarely take cover.

  • Stalker: cannon-fodder troops reanimated from Dregs.
  • Ravager: headless melee brutes who swing a flaming censer that leaves fire on the ground.
  • Wraith: savage chargers with dual flame torches.
  • Screeb: kamikaze units that scuttle in and explode.
  • Raider: troops who turn briefly intangible with a Dark Ether smoke dash, and snipe with crossbows.
  • Lurker: shield-bearers who block fire for their allies.
  • Chieftain: commanders who plant Ether Totems that burn, shield allies, or tether Guardians.
  • Abomination: huge, headless siege monsters who fire Arc bolts and slam the ground.

The Scorn also field the Scorn Pike and the Scorn Walker.

Notable Scorn

  • Fikrul, the Fanatic: the first of the Scorn and their leader, finally killed for good in Episode: Revenant.
  • The Scorned Barons: Fikrul's eight lieutenants from Forsaken (see above).

Fighting the Scorn

Chieftains are the priority: their Ether Totems decide a fight, with Solar totems burning ground, Void totems shielding nearby Scorn, and Arc totems tethering you in place. A Ravager's flaming censer can be shot to blow up the Ravager, and a dropped censer becomes a bomb. Raiders go briefly untouchable during their smoke dash, so stun, blind, or freeze them to break it. Let Screebs explode at a distance rather than in your face.

Trivia

  • The Scorn are the first Fallen faction with no Servitors of their own.
  • They first broke loose during the Prison of Elders riot that opened Forsaken.
  • Fikrul was the first Fallen antagonist to speak fluent English in the game.
