Information

Lightbearer Wizards are Hive Wizards who have been resurrected by Ghosts and granted the power of the Light. They are members of Savathûn's Lucent Brood and serve as some of the most dangerous enemies introduced in The Witch Queen expansion.

Description

Lightbearer Wizards represent a fundamental shift in the Hive's capabilities, wielding the same paracausal powers as Guardians. These risen Hive function as the Warlock equivalent within the Lucent Brood hierarchy, utilizing Arc abilities similar to the Stormcaller subclass. They are distinguishable by their dark blue and alabaster white armor, grey skin, and the presence of a Hive Ghost that enables their resurrection.

Abilities

Standard Attacks

  • Arc Darkness Blasts: Primary ranged attack dealing Arc damage
  • Pulse Grenades: Throwable Arc grenades that damage areas over time
  • Rapid Flight: Enhanced mobility allowing quick repositioning
  • Midair Levitation: Can hover in place while attacking

Light Abilities

  • Healing Rift: Deploys a healing area that regenerates health for all Hive within
  • Class Ability Regeneration: Faster ability cooldowns compared to standard Wizards

Super Ability: Stormtrance

When their Super is charged (indicated by blue glowing eyes):

  • Arc Lightning Bolts: Long-range, high-damage Arc attacks replacing standard blasts

  • Enhanced Damage Resistance: Increased survivability during Super activation
  • Extended Duration: Can maintain Stormtrance for significant periods

Engaging Lightbearer Wizards

Counter Healing Rifts: Apply sustained damage when they deploy rifts 4. Super Awareness: Watch for blue eye glow indicating charged Super 5. Cover Usage: Use environmental cover to avoid Pulse Grenades and lightning

Lore Significance

Lightbearer Wizards emerged when Savathûn gained the Light and Immaru, her Ghost, summoned other Ghosts to the Throne World. These Ghosts chose to resurrect loyal Hive, creating the first Light-wielding Hive faction. This development represents a paradigm shift in Destiny's universe, as humanity's greatest power—resurrection through the Light—is no longer exclusive to Guardians.

The existence of Lightbearer Wizards raises philosophical questions about:

  • The nature of the Light and worthiness
  • The Traveler's true intentions
  • The potential for alliance or eternal conflict with Light-bearing Hive
