Overview
Wraiths are reanimated Fallen warriors that have been transformed into Scorn through the corrupting influence of Dark Ether. They serve as the primary melee specialists within Scorn forces, filling a similar tactical role to Cabal Gladiators. These savage fighters are known for their aggressive combat style and relentless pursuit of their enemies.
Appearance
Wraiths are larger and more muscular than most other Scorn units, though not as tall as Chieftains. Their bodies show the typical signs of Scorn corruption, with twisted features and dark ether flowing through their forms. They are immediately recognizable by their dual-wielded Flame Torches, which they carry at all times and wield with brutal efficiency.
Combat
Tactics
Wraiths excel in close-quarters combat, using the following tactics:
- Aggressive Charges: They rush directly at Guardians, using their speed and durability to close distances quickly
- Group Attacks: Often attack in small groups or lead other Scorn units in melee charges
- Overwhelming Pressure: Use varied attack patterns with their torches to keep enemies off-balance
- Shield Protection: Higher-ranking Wraiths may deploy Solar shields for additional protection
Weapons and Abilities
- Flame Torches: Dual-wielded melee weapons that deal Solar damage
- Scorching Attacks: Their torch strikes can inflict burning effects on targets
- High Durability: More resilient than standard Scorn infantry
- Rapid Movement: Capable of quick charges and evasive maneuvers
- Solar Shield: Elite variants occasionally bear orange energy shields
Strategy
When engaging Wraiths, Guardians should:
- Maintain Distance: Keep out of melee range to avoid their devastating torch attacks
- Target Priority: Eliminate Wraiths before they can close to melee distance
- Use Cover: Break line of sight to interrupt their charges
- Solar Weapons: For shielded variants, Solar damage is most effective against their shields
- Crowd Control: Abilities that slow, freeze, or suppress are highly effective
Variants
- Wraith: Standard variant with no shields
- Corrupted Wraith: Elite variant that may possess Solar shields
- Tarnished Wraith: High-value target variant with increased health and damage
Behavior
Wraiths display savage and aggressive behavior patterns:
- Lead charges alongside Ravagers and Screebs
- Show no self-preservation instinct, fighting until destroyed
- Coordinate with other Scorn to overwhelm defenders
- Emit distinctive shrieks and battle cries during combat
Lore
Like all Scorn, Wraiths are created from deceased Fallen through the corrupting power of Dark Ether, a substance created by Fikrul, the Fanatic. This reanimation process strips away much of their former intelligence and personality, leaving behind savage warriors driven by hatred and a desire for violence.
The transformation into a Wraith appears to enhance the physical capabilities of the base Fallen, granting them increased strength and durability at the cost of their sanity. They serve as shock troops in Scorn assaults, their ferocity making them feared even among other corrupted units.
