Overview
General Information
- Rare items are denoted in-game by a blue tooltip.
- Rare items fall into the third tier of rarity.
Characteristics
- The base Attack/Defense cap for Rare equipment depends on the expansions owned by the player.
- For Curse of Osiris owners, the cap is 330 Attack/Defense. For other players, the cap is 300 Attack/Defense.
- Rare equipment cannot be Infused.
- Rare equipment can be Infused into Legendary or Exotic equipment.
- Rare equipment can be recolored with Shaders.
- Rare equipment can be altered with Mods.
- Rare equipment cannot be purchased from Faction Vendors.
- Most Rare engrams decrypt automatically when they are picked up.
- Encrypted Engrams, awarded by certain Adventures when the current character has unlocked all Subclass abilities for their class, do not decrypt automatically - they must be taken to a Cryptarch to be decrypted.
Acquisition - Rare Equipment
- Rare equipment may be obtained upon completion of certain Adventures.
- Rare equipment may be obtained upon completion of certain Quests.
- Rare equipment may be obtained upon completion of a Crucible match.
Acquisition - Rare Engrams
- Rare engrams may drop randomly from defeated enemies.
- Rare engrams may drop randomly from planetary chests.
- Rare engrams may drop randomly from region chests.
- Rare engrams may drop randomly from High-Value Target chests.
- Rare engrams may drop randomly from Public Event chests.
- Rare engrams may drop randomly from Lost Sector chests.
- Rare engrams may drop randomly from Cayde's loot stashes.
