The Crucible is a PvP focused mode in Destiny 2. It pits Guardians in teams against each other or on their own in various types of gamemodes. A PlayStation Plus subscription is required.

Introduction

During Crucible matches, level advantages will be negated. This means that all player and equipment stats will be temporarily recalculated, in order to balance the match out. Weapons will deal damage based on their types instead of stats and certain pieces of armor will not offer any advantages over others.

Crucible matches can end via a mercy rule which occurs when one team reaches 60% score before the other team reaches 20% score. When the match is called off the timer jumps to 0:08 without any way to reverse it.

Control

Control is a 6v6 mode that is available as a permanent standard gamemode. It has players conquer certain zones around the map. Capturing one zone counts for 1 point, capturing 2 zones counts for 2 points, and capturing 3 zones counts for 3 points. Controlling 0-1 zones will result in 1 point per kill, and each zone after the first zone captured adds 1 point per kill. The Control mode comes with 3 zones to conquer on each map. The first team to reach 150 points wins.

Clash

Clash is a 6v6 mode and is available as a weekly rotational gamemode. It is a standard Team Deathmatch mode. A team can win a Clash by either being the first to score 150 points or having more points than the enemy team when the timer runs out.

Survival

Survival is a 3v3 mode that is available only in the Competitive playlist. However, each team has a limited number of lives. Every time a player on either team dies, that team loses a life. When a team has no lives left, its players cannot respawn. In order to win, a team must make their opponents use up all of their lives and eliminate them afterward.

Rumble

Rumble is 6-player free-for-all PvP mode that is available as a permanent standard gamemode. Every time you kill someone you gain 1 point. First to 30 points wins.

Showdown

Showdown is a 4v4 PvP mode that is available only as a weekly rotating gamemode.

Elimination

Elimination is a 3v3 PvP mode that is available as a permanent standard gamemode. In this gamemode, rounds are only won when a team's players are all dead.

Mayhem

Mayhem is a 6v6 mode that is available only as a weekly rotating gamemode. Everyone's abilities and Supers will rapidly gain energy in this mode. Killing someone provides 1 points, and killing someone with your Super or abilities will provide an additional 2 points. First team to 125 points wins.

Trials of Osiris

Trials of Osiris is a 3v3 special PvP mode that is only available for a limited time each week from the start of reset on Friday to the weekly reset of Tuesday. It takes place on a different map each week. There is no matchmaking for Trials of Osiris, so players must assemble a fireteam of 3 Guardians in advance if they want to compete. Trials of Osiris follows the Elimination ruleset.

Team Scorched

Team Scorched is a 6v6 PvP mode where you defeated your opponents with Scorch Cannons.

Vaulted PvP Modes

Trials of the Nine

Trials of the Nine was a 4v4 special PvP mode that was only available for a limited time each week. It took place in a different arena every week. There was no matchmaking for Trials of the Nine, so players had to assemble a fireteam of four Guardians in advance if they wanted to compete.

When it comes to the rules itself, the Trials of the Nine matches followed the rules of the Competitive playlist (either Survival or Countdown).

Breakthrough

Breakthrough was a 4v4 PvP mode that was available only as a weekly rotating gamemode. At the start of each round, players will fight to capture a central zone. Once this zone was captured, your team would've need to deploy a Breaker. When a Breaker was deployed, it was used to assault and hack the enemy team's Vault. If you were able to hack the enemy team's Vault, you would win the round, and if you fail, you would lose the round.

Countdown

Countdown was a 4v4 mode available only as a weekly rotating gamemode and was extremely similar to the Bomb Defusal mode of the popular first-person shooter game Counter-Strike. It consists of up to eleven rounds of play. Each round, a team was tasked with planting a bomb at one of the 2 possible locations per map. Once that was accomplished, the bomb must be protected from the opposing team until it detonates. The opponents' objective was to prevent the planting of the bomb or defuse it after it has been planted.

A team could've won by completing the objective or eliminating the opposing team. However, if the bomb was planted, the team that needs to defuse it cannot win the round without completing the objective (which is defusing the bomb in this case), regardless of the number of enemies alive.

Lockdown

Lockdown was a 4v4 PvP mode that was available only as a weekly rotating gamemode. This gamemode operates similar to that of Control, however in this gamemode you could only gain score from holding zone versus getting kills and capturing zones. If a team held all 3 zones, then they would have won the round.

Supremacy

Supremacy was a 6v6 mode available only as a rotating weekly mode and was similar to Clash. However, when a player died, they dropped a crest. The objective of this mode was to collect more crests than the opposing team. It was also possible to pick up friendly crests to deny the opposing team from scoring points.
