Legacy: Sails of the Shipstealer is a Legendary Quest from the Season of Plunder. It is obtained from the Star Chart in the H.E.L.M. after completing the Ahoy and Aweigh quest. It follows the main story of the Season.

The relics obtained from Pirate Hideouts as part of the quest can be placed on the display table across from the Star Chart. Placing relics provides additional dialogue and unlocks entries in the Between Stolen Stars lore book. The Antiquarian Seasonal Challenges (available during the Season of Plunder and the Season of the Seraph) require placing the relics in order to complete them. Each week of the quest also unlocks a radio message at the computer console outside of The Ether Tank bar in the Eliksni Quarter, next to the Holoprojector.

This quest was followed by the quest A Rising Tide, which acted as an epilogue for the Season. It was available to all players for the last two weeks of the Season.

Legacy: Sails of the Shipstealer
With alarming bolts of Arc energy, the Star Chart crackles to life as you approach.

The interface, clearly adapted from a Fallen Walker, shows possible pirate routes across the galaxy. The screen is a confusing mess of Eliksni symbols and coordinate shorthand.

The screen flickers impatiently, anticipating calibration with someone bearing a Captain's Atlas…

Legacy: Sails of the Shipstealer
Mithrax, Kell of House Light, seems shaken by the violence employed by Eramis and the pirate crews at her command. "I thought the Eliksni had moved on from such senseless brutality," he says.

"It seems I was mistaken."

He explains the heavy book that awaits near the Star Chart: a Captain's Atlas, which will enable you to better command your ship and crew.

He asks that you discover why Eramis is using these old crews. "They know the stars in a way even House Salvation does not," he says, but does not know what they are searching for.

Finding the answer to that question falls to you.

Despite the casual atmosphere in The Ether Tank, you receive a Vanguard-secured communication from Eido, dedicated Scribe of House Light.

Eido is already busy studying the relic you reclaimed from Eramis's pirates.

"I am eager to learn the nature of the strange energies that seep from within," she says with unfettered curiosity.

She thanks you for including her as part of your budding pirate crew, and then excuses herself to further study the relic with her father.

"Just the Guardian I wanted to see," he says with a grin.

"I told the Vanguard I had a plan to help arm the Guardians against Eramis's forces. They funded me with some Glimmer, and I traded it in for some incredible gear."

"But just handing out weapons…" he trails off, shaking his head. "Where's the fun in that?"

"I thought I'd make it a little more interesting," he purrs, rubbing his hands together excitedly.

"So pick an engram, any engram, and reveal your prize!"

Eido's voice crackles over your radio.

"I noticed you were taking in the sights in the Eliksni Quarter," she says brightly. "That might explain the strange energy readings I just picked up from The Ether Tank."

"Please, carry on," Eido says. "Don't let me interrupt your recreation!"

Mithrax hails you on the H.E.L.M. holoprojector. There is fear in his voice as he tells you what he has learned about the relic.

"It is an object pulled from Eliksni legend," he says, "and I fear it is not the only one of its kind."

The relic, previously believed to be an old pirate rumor, emanates pure Darkness. Mithrax is afraid this is why the Witness awoke Eramis: to unite the old crews, as they are the only ones who know where the other relics are hidden.

"Eramis cannot be allowed to claim the powers within," Mithrax warns. "If she does… all will fall to corruption."

"You must find them," he insists. "You must."

Drifter hums a jaunty tune as he greets you from the holoprojector.

He explains he is taking over for Mithrax while he and Eido study the latest relic you retrieved from Eramis's pirates.

"Eido's researching how to tap into their power," he says. "She thinks something's hidden inside 'em. I swear she was about to crack one open before Mithrax stopped her!"

Drifter pauses a moment. "I took one look and knew those things were bad news," he says. "Reminds me of something… from a long time ago."

Lost in thought, Drifter leaves the call, presumably to do some research of his own.

Mithrax greets you with grave news—Eramis's fleet is converging on another relic.

He also has a request: "Do not involve Eido in your violence against the old crews," he asks.

"She is brave and curious, but does not yet understand the brutality of the world," he says, with some difficulty. "There are pain-truths in our history."

Mithrax admits Eido should know about the past of her people, but he wants to be the one to teach her. He asks that you give him time to prepare to do so responsibly.

For now, Eramis's crews must be disrupted, and another relic snatched from her grasp.

As for the tension between Mithrax and Eido, Drifter isn't concerned.

Eido's voice comes in over your radio.

"More energy interference!" she cries. "That was the last piece of triangulation data I required. I believe I have figured out a way to block these energy spikes, should another one occur."

"Perhaps we will be able to figure out this puzzle together."

Mithrax is beside himself with urgency. He tells you that Eido has reached out to Eramis.

Eido invoked an old ritual followed by the pirate crews: "words with empty hands," a type of parley.

If Eramis accepts, there will be a brief ceasefire, as no violence is permitted at a parley. Still, Mithrax asks that you attend.

"This may be a ploy, and we must not be fooled," he says.

Mithrax hopes that Eramis will ignore the request. He knows she will do nothing that is not to her benefit. Still…

"A word can do more damage than a blade," Mithrax cautions, "and Eramis is skilled at wielding both."

"Hey there, hero," Drifter says. "I heard you parleyed with Eramis, and she hit you with some heavy truths."

He tells you it doesn't bother him that Mithrax used to be a pirate. "He's just a fella who done somethin' he ain't proud of," he says. "And that I understand."

He says what a person does now is more important than who they used to be.

He sympathizes with Eido—he knows how the hurt of having someone hide the truth from you can be worse than the truth they were hiding.

And speaking of hiding, Drifter comes clean with you: He knew what the relics were the first time you brought one back, as he recognized their energy from a distant visit to the Fourth Tomb of Nezarec. The dangerous power they contain is why he insisted on your involvement from the beginning.

He says Eris gave him some ideas about how to harness that power—"If we can stop Eramis from findin' the last few relics and killin' us all," he adds.

"So get on that."

Mithrax is curt when you speak to him. He is reluctant to discuss his past as a pirate.

"I will not apologize, as I believe the secrets of my old life were mine to keep."

But his voice cracks with deep emotion when he speaks of Eido.

"I am ashamed of my cruelty. Of the things I did, the people I hurt. I thought I left it behind me… but the old Misraaks is still within me, and now he has hurt my daughter—"

He corrects himself. "I have hurt my daughter."

"I was a killer, but I am a Kell," he says. "I will prove to you which title I deserve."

Spider reveals your winnings and snarls.

"So this is how it's going to be, eh Guardian?" he growls. "You want to go head-to-head with me?"

You say nothing as you admire your new weapon. Spider takes a raspy breath.

"Fine. Just know… I know what you're up to."

"Come back next time, Guardian," he says, his eyes cold. "I'll have a fresh batch of engrams for you."

"I've set up a relay to automatically block all surges on that suspicious frequency," Eido tells you over the radio.

"Each surge is logged. It appears that interference was attempted… 38 times in the last minute, as though someone was repeatedly triggering a jamming mechanism."

Eido chuckles. "I hope my assistance here will help you even the odds."

Drifter wastes little time with pleasantries before he gives you a warning:

"You don't survive as long as me without being able to smell trouble, and honestly, kid? You stink of it."

"You're going after chunks of a dead Disciple of the Witness," he says. "That's some serious juju."

He tells you to watch your back and be careful who you trust.

"The stakes are high," he says. "That's when folks tend to get… unpredictable."

"Good of you to visit, Captain," Spider says. "Seems like only yesterday I loaned you my ship, and now you're known across the system."

His eyes narrow—it's clear he disapproves. "It's safer in the shadows," he says.

"I learned that long ago from a handsome young fellow named Rakis."

Spider tells you this Rakis served on the old crews until he was betrayed, and then spent the rest of his life on the run. Eventually, Rakis was killed, and his bounty was claimed.

…by someone who called himself Spider.

"Savvy?" Spider snarls as he lets you in on his secret. "Cashed in a past, bought a future. Walked away reborn and never looked back… just like Misraaks, pretending his old life never happened."

Spider's voice drips with envy. "The old fury is still inside him somewhere," he hisses.

"It's best he not forget that."

"It's strange, Guardian," says Eido's voice over the radio. "I have no energy surges to report. My instruments are working perfectly, but there was no recent interference attempted from The Ether Tank."

"I am unwilling to speculate as to why, but I am pleased things appear to have resolved."

"You are close to securing the last relic of Nezarec," Mithrax tells you through the hologram, "and we near the end of our mission."

Mithrax has noticed no communications between Eramis and her loyal crews… but he did find record of a message she sent to Eido, buried in the end of a Scribe log.

Although Eramis's words were benign, he does not trust her – "We know the Shipstealer only acts to her own benefit," he says.

Mithrax reveals that Eido is barely speaking to him. She only sits and studies the coordinate patterns of the pirate lairs. He has never seen her so immersed in study.

"I meant only to protect her," he says softly. "She will see that, in time—she must… unless she has already made her choice."

"Claim the final reliquary and finish this conflict," he urges. "May the Light provide."

"Mithrax has Eramis at the end of his sword, and then… nothing?"

The hologram of Drifter squints as you tell him of Mithrax's battle against Eramis.

"I thought that guy still had some mean in him," he puzzles. "Guess I was wrong."

Drifter says he has to give you credit; "You did a hell of a job out there."

"Drove Eramis off, stopped whatever plan the Witness had, and brought home all the pieces of Nezarec."

He grins. "Not bad at all."

He seems confident Mithrax and Eido can figure out some way to harness the power of the relics of Nezarec, but until they do, there's nothing to do but enjoy your well-earned riches.

"And don't worry about giving me my cut, Captain," he winks. "It just felt nice to be a good guy again. Trust."

As Spider watches you draw yet another powerful weapon from the offered engrams, he chuckles.

"Hard to argue with luck like that," he says.

"One thing I've learned through all this: the Guardians are a safe bet."

"And with that," he says gruffly, readjusting in his chair, "I believe I've dutifully distributed all the gear entrusted to me by the Vanguard. So now I must ask you, with all possible kindness and expediency—"

"—to get out of my bar."

You can tell Eido is smiling when she contacts you over the radio.

"No attempts at energy jamming today, Guardian," she says. "Either Spider finally found his faith in the Guardians, or he realized opposing you is more trouble than it's worth."

"Either outcome is quite positive, wouldn't you agree?"
