Ionic Trace is an Arc elemental pickup.
Description
A bolt of pure Arc energy that travels along the ground, seeking toward its creator. When picked up, Ionic Traces grant ability energy.
Notes
- Collecting an Ionic Trace restores 12.5% melee energy, 12.5% grenade energy, and 15% class ability energy.[1]
- Ionic Trace was originally a passive ability, exclusive to the Warlock's Stormcaller subclass.

Arc Aspects
- Touch of Thunder — Your Flashbang, Pulse, Lightning, and Storm Grenades have enhanced functionality.
- Pulse Grenade: Creates Ionic Traces periodically as it damages targets and increases in damage over time.
Stormcaller (Warlock)
Arc Aspects
- Electrostatic Mind — Defeating targets with Arc abilities or defeating jolted or blinded targets creates an Ionic Trace.
Arc Fragments
- Spark of Discharge — Arc weapon final blows have a chance to create an Ionic Trace.
- Spark of Ions — Defeating a jolted target creates an Ionic Trace.
Exotic Weapons
- Coldheart (Trace Rifle) — Cold Fusion: This weapon shoots a steady cold-fusion-powered Arc laser, dealing more damage the longer it remains on a target.
- Longest Winter: Periodically generates Ionic Traces while in its high-damage state.
- Delicate Tomb (Fusion Rifle) — Traitor's Vessel: Final blows with this weapon have a chance to generate Ionic Traces. Powerful foes and opposing Guardians always generate Ionic Traces.

- Lucky Raspberry — Increases the chaining capabilities of Arcbolt Grenades. Damaging enemies with Jolt lightning strikes and collecting Ionic Traces both grant additional Arcbolt Grenade energy.
Stormcaller (Warlock)

- Electrostatic Mind — Collecting an Ionic Trace makes you amplified.

- Fallen Sunstar — Ionic traces you create move faster and grant you additional ability energy. Nearby allies also gain ability energy when you collect an ionic trace.
- Leg Armor
- Geomag Stabilizers — Collecting Ionic Traces grants you energy for Chaos Reach.

- Elemental Charge — Collecting a Firesprite, Ionic Trace, Stasis shard, or Void Breach, or destroying a Strand Tangle has an escalating chance to give you Armor Charge.
Exotic Weapons
- Delicate Tomb (Fusion Rifle)
- Tempest Cascade: Collecting an Ionic Trace overcharges this weapon's next shot, jolting targets on hit.
- Ionic Interment (Catalyst): Collecting an Ionic Trace partially reloads the magazine from reserves.
Weapon Traits
- Collective Action — Collecting elemental pickups or throwing a Strand Tangle grants a stacking period of increased damage.
- Elemental pickups include Firesprites, Void Breaches, Stasis Shards, Ionic Traces, and Strand Tangles.

- Fixed an issue where Ionic Traces Generated from Fallen Star granted Glaive shield energy.

- Standardized a set of buffs and debuffs aligned to the Arc damage type:
- Ionic Trace - A bolt of pure Arc energy that travels along the ground, seeking its creator. When picked up, Ionic Traces grant grenade, melee, and class ability energy.
- Hovering over Aspects, Fragments, or abilities on the Arc subclass screen now displays a tooltip flyout detailing any relevant status effects.
- No longer provide Super energy on pickup.
- Reduced melee, grenade, and class ability energy return to compensate for expected increased uptime:
- Base melee energy return reduced from 20% to 12.5%.
- Base grenade energy return reduced from 15% to 12.5%.
- Base class ability energy return reduced from 25% to 15%.
- Standardized a set of buffs and debuffs aligned to the Arc damage type:
