PsiOps Battleground: Cosmodrome is an Arena activity introduced in the Season of the Risen. It was part of the PsiOps Battlegrounds playlist, and could also be launched as a mission from the Cosmodrome map.
With the release of Lightfall, most Year 5 seasonal content was removed from the game and added to the Destiny Content Vault. The PsiOps Battlegrounds missions remained in the game, moving to the Vanguard Ops strike playlist. They cannot be launched as individual missions through the Director, and can only be played when randomly chosen by the playlist.

Walkthrough
The Divide
Guardians deploy in The Divide, a Cosmodrome area littered with rusted structures and Fallen scavengers. The objective is to escort a payload of Lucent Remains to breach a Hive nest entrance. Clear waves of Fallen enemies, including Dregs, Vandals, Shanks, and explosive Shanks, which spawn periodically and can halt the payload if not defeated. A Brig miniboss appears mid-escort, requiring heavy weapons due to its high health (noted for surviving high-damage attacks like Celestial Nighthawk Golden Gun crits). Stay near the payload to keep it moving, as straying too far causes it to stop, and infinite Fallen snipers spawn if progress stalls. Barrier or Unstoppable Champions may spawn in playlist or Legend runs, requiring appropriate mods (for example Anti-Barrier Auto Rifle, Anti-Unstoppable Pulse Rifle). Completing the escort unlocks the Hive nest entrance.
The Breach
Inside the Hive nest, players face dense waves of Lucent Hive, including Thrall, Acolytes, Knights, and Wizards, some with Light-based abilities (for example Solar grenades). The objective is to dispel Captured Light by defeating Hive Purifiers (Major enemies) to collect Captured Light orbs. Deposit these orbs at a marked area to progress, with a Heavy Ammo box available to replenish loadouts. Additional Champions may spawn in playlist or Legend runs, complicating the encounter. Clear all Captured Light to unlock the path to the Mindscape, watching for fast-moving Thralls and ranged Wizard attacks that can overwhelm uncoordinated teams.
The Mindscape
The final encounter occurs in the Mindscape, a psionic realm where players confront Uul'nath, Lightcleanser, a Lightbearer Knight. Damage Uul’nath until he reaches two-thirds health, when he becomes invulnerable, retreats, and summons an Aspect of Savathûn (a yellow-bar enemy). Pick up a Synaptic Spear (spawning on central steps, marked by a waypoint) and throw it to destroy the Aspect, resuming the damage phase. At one-third health, Uul’nath summons two Aspects, with spears spawning in the left cave and on right rubble. Destroy both Aspects to continue damaging Uul’nath.
Mechanics
Uul’nath uses a Blade Barrage ability (signaled by red spinning blades above his head), dealing heavy damage. Take cover to avoid it. Waves of Hive adds (Thralls, Acolytes) spawn throughout, requiring crowd control with grenades or heavy weapons. In playlist, Legend, or Grandmaster runs, Barrier and Unstoppable Champions may spawn during damage phases, necessitating equipped mods.
Strategy
Prioritize add control with area-of-effect abilities to maintain space. Use Synaptic Spears quickly to minimize downtime, and save heavy ammo for Uul’nath’s damage phases. High-damage Supers (for example Thundercrash) and Power weapons (for example Linear Fusion Rifles) are effective, but ensure Champion coverage. In Grandmaster, stay near spawn for safety, using long-range weapons like Outbreak Perfected or Wish-Ender.
Completion
Deplete Uul’nath’s health and destroy his Ghost. Two Imperial Optus Psions trap his mind, teleporting players back to the material plane to complete the mission.
Notes
During Season of the Risen, completing PsiOps Battleground: Cosmodrome progressed the Operation Elbrus quest and seasonal challenges, rewarding Psychogenic Intel and Risen Umbral Energy for focusing Umbral Engrams at the War Table. A Runic Chest (requiring 500 Psychogenic Intel) offered additional seasonal gear, but this is unavailable in the Vanguard Ops version. The activity originally required completing the first mission of The Witch Queen campaign and the Rising Tensions quest to unlock the PsiOps Battlegrounds playlist. The Brig miniboss in The Divide has a bugged health pool, surviving high-damage attacks, which has been a persistent issue since launch. A bug preventing Captured Light pickup in The Breach was fixed in Patch 4.0.0.5, though rare progression issues may persist. The activity is part of the Grandmaster Nightfall rotation, noted for its high difficulty due to dense enemies, tight spaces, and numerous Champions. Strategies include using Outbreak Perfected, blinding Grenade Launchers, and Void Hunter or Solar Warlock builds. An exploit allowed players to open chests twice by sprinting to The Divide after looting, triggering a teleport back to the chests, effective in normal and Legend versions during Season of the Risen.
