Defiant Engram is an Engram from the Season of Defiance.
Acquisition
Defiant Engrams are stored on the War Table vendor screen, not in the player's engram inventory. Its quantity can be viewed using the 
Engram Tracker.
Defiant Engrams can drop when completing Defiant Battlegrounds missions, as well as various other activities throughout the game. Opening the chest at the end of a mission in the Defiant Battlegrounds playlist with a 
Defiant Key in the player's inventory will automatically consume the key, rewarding additional engrams.
After the end of the Season of Defiance, the 
Legacy: Ascendant Scepter Seasonal Heirloom must be in the player's inventory in order to earn Defiant Engrams as drops from non-seasonal activities. It can be obtained from the War Table.
Players get a Defiant Engram as a reward for each rank increase with the War Table. Rank can be increased by completing missions in the Defiant Battlegrounds playlist.
This engram's contents can also drop when completing a Defiant Battlegrounds mission.
Upgrades
The following upgrades (unlocked at the War Table with 
War Table Upgrades) can affect the acquisition of Defiant Engrams:
Defiant Sojourner: When you earn a Defiant Engram by completing non-Battleground activities, you will earn an additional one.
Battleground Riches: Spending a Defiant Key at the end of a Season of Defiance Battleground increases the chances of earning additional Defiant Engrams.
Vestian Ward: Spending a Defiant Key at the end of a Season of Defiance Battleground in which you received Favors of Grace, Justice, and Zeal will award an additional Defiant Engram and War Table reputation.
Usage
Claiming a Defiant Engram from the War Table's vendor screen will immediately decrypt it into a Seasonal weapon or armor item.
With the relevant upgrades unlocked at the War Table, players can focus Defiant Engrams into specific seasonal engrams, weapons, and armor by purchasing those items from the Defiant Engram Decoding vendor screen. The engrams are consumed when the player purchases an item.
Upgrades
The following upgrades (unlocked at the War Table with War Table Upgrades) can affect the usage of Defiant Engrams:
Defiant Armor Focusing: Focus your Defiant Engrams into high-stat Seasonal armor. Requires that piece of armor in your collection.
Defiant Weapon Focusing: Focus your Defiant Engrams into Seasonal weapons. Requires that weapon in your collection.
Deepsight Decoding: The first Season of Defiance weapon you decode each week will have Deepsight Resonance.
