Monument of Triumph is a major update for Destiny 2, released on June 9, 2026 as Update 9.7.0 during the Renegades expansion (Season: Lawless, the 29th Season). It is the game's final planned live-service content update. Bungie does not intend to add further planned content after it, though hotfixes for the game's health and stability may still be released. Destiny 2 stays online, and the content present as of Update 9.5.6.3 along with everything added in 9.7.0 remains playable.

Bungie described the update as a celebration of what Guardians have accomplished since Destiny 2 launched in 2017, from turning back the Darkness and defeating gods to banishing nightmares and leaving their mark across the Sol system. Its centerpiece is a reward system, also called the Monument of Triumph, that pays those accomplishments back as cosmetics and gear.

Overview

The Monument of Triumph turns the game's Triumphs into a permanent reward track with no expiration date. Triumphs are drawn from the whole game: raids, dungeons, the Crucible, destinations, playlists, seasonal content, and quieter pursuits such as visiting scenic locations. Completing them awards Legendary Marks, a currency spent at a set of vendors in the Tower Courtyard called the Monument of Guardian Tenets. A new Title and a new armor ornament set were also added and will stay in the game indefinitely.

Because the track is permanent, players can work through it at their own pace instead of chasing a seasonal deadline. Every Guardian who logs in after the update receives a starter package of 2 Bright Engrams, 50 Legendary Marks, and the Toast to the Monument emblem. Players who were active through earlier years of the game also receive the Old Lights emblem and the Elemental Qi emote.

The Tenets

The Monument of Guardian Tenets is split into four vendors, each marked by a plaque: Tenet of Bravery, Tenet of Devotion, Tenet of Sacrifice, and Tenet of Death. A Guardian spends Marks at the Tenet of Bravery first, which unlocks access to the other three. Between them, the Tenets sell armor ornaments, Ghost Shells, Ships, Sparrows and Skimmers, shaders, emotes, finishers, transmat effects, emblems, and weapon engrams, along with several Exotic weapons.

Legendary Marks

Legendary Marks are the currency of the Monument of Triumph. They are earned only by completing the Monument's Triumphs and are spent only at the Tenet vendors. Marks have no weekly cap and no seasonal reset, so a player's total is tied to how many Triumphs they have finished rather than to how long any event has been live.

Rewards

The Monument gathers a large amount of older and seasonal loot into one place. Returning Exotic weapons include Fafnir and Heir Apparent, while the season's own Exotics, Cull's Shadow and Turncoat, along with their catalysts, are tied to the same systems. Cosmetic rewards range across classic shaders such as Superblack and Chatterwhite, Skimmers and Sparrows such as All Star Vector and Gryphon, ships, Ghost Shells, and full armor ornament sets. The Season: Lawless Oblation cosmetic set, which covers a ship, a Sparrow, a Ghost Shell, a shader, and two emblems, belongs to this loot pool. Many classic weapons from across Destiny 2's history also returned to the reward pools.

Examples of new gear from Season: Lawless:

Triumphant Rewards Pass

Update 9.7.0 added a final Rewards Pass, the Triumphant Rewards Pass, which has no end date and keeps both free and premium rewards available. Players who own Renegades, the Year of Prophecy, or the Year of Prophecy Ultimate Edition receive it automatically, and everyone else can buy it on its own in the Eververse Store or as part of a new purchase of The Edge of Fate, Renegades, or Destiny 2: The Collection. The pass replaced the old Score Boost with a set of XP Boosts worth up to 15% extra Personal and Fireteam experience, unlocked across five stages based on Lawless Rewards Pass progress. Its added cosmetics include two armor ornament sets, six shaders, two accessory sets, two emotes, a finisher, a Holochip, a Ghost Hologram, and a Skimmer.

Retired Seasonal Events

Four recurring seasonal events were retired as live activities: Guardian Games, Solstice, Festival of the Lost, and The Dawning. Their rewards did not vanish. Some moved into the Monument of Guardian Tenets, and some armor sets became available in Eververse for Bright Dust, so the gear stays earnable year-round instead of only during a limited window.

The New Director

The update reorganized the Director around a set of Ops hubs reached from the Destinations screen: Vanguard Ops, Fireteam Ops, Arena Ops, Pinnacle Ops, Solo Ops, and Crucible Ops. Several older nodes were folded in or removed. The legacy Vanguard Ops playlist and the Nightfall nodes were deprecated, and Vanguard Ops activities now live in the Fireteam Ops hub. Legacy Crucible nodes moved into Crucible Ops, where featured modes appear on a rotation. The Legends node was removed, with its Exotic missions, raids, and dungeons launching from Pinnacle Ops or a new Raids and Dungeons node. The Seasonal Hub and Event Card sit under the Destinations tab as well, alongside Kepler and The Lawless Frontier.

Gambit

Gambit returned as a permanent activity with refreshed rewards as part of the reorganized Ops structure.

Pantheon and Sparrow Racing League

Pantheon and Sparrow Racing League were both added in Update 9.7.0 as permanent activities. Sparrow Racing League brought back the original Destiny 1 tracks and added a new one, the Quantum Circuit Track, and for the first time it lets Guardians race on Skimmers as well as Sparrows, with each race starting on a Rocket Start.

Eververse

With the update, the Eververse moved toward an evergreen setup. A new Daily Offers tab rotates its Silver and Bright Dust offers each day. Bright Dust is now earned mainly through the Seasonal Hub, with higher weekly amounts and a regular allotment on the free track of the Triumphant Rewards Pass, and Zavala's weekly Arsenal Credit buyback switched to Chronologs.

The update also added Bright Engram Focusing, a new Eververse tab. Spending Bright Dust alongside a Bright Engram focuses it toward a chosen category and guarantees an unowned item, with no duplicates. The cost scales with the category: a standard decryption is free, Legendary accessories, shaders, or flair cost 300 Bright Dust, Exotic accessories and Legendary emotes or finishers cost 600, and Exotic weapon ornaments, Exotic emotes, and armor ornaments cost 900. Each Focused Engram holds a finite pool that depletes as its items are claimed. Players can also exchange certain legacy engrams from Seasons 1 through 11 on a one-to-one basis.

Monument to Seasons Past

The update added a second structure to the Tower Courtyard, the Monument to Seasons Past, which stands in front of Banshee-44 next to the Monument to Lost Lights. There, players can buy Archived Passes from earlier Seasons with Silver and unlock their rewards using Chronologs. Chronologs became one of the four featured currencies shown in the interface, listed after Glimmer and before Silver, and are earned mainly through the Seasonal Hub. The Ash & Iron and Lawless Rewards Passes were added to this monument.

Trials of Osiris and Iron Banner

Trials of Osiris runs every weekend except when Iron Banner is active, and it requires SMS verification and ownership of The Edge of Fate, Renegades, or Destiny 2: The Collection. Iron Banner runs for one week every four weeks, from reset to reset, and requires SMS verification for free-to-play accounts.

Destiny 2: The Collection

Destiny 2: The Collection released on June 9, 2026 alongside the update. It bundles all Dungeon Keys, which can also be bought separately in the Eververse.

Continued Support

The Destiny 2 API and the official Destiny Companion App continue to be supported after Update 9.7.0. Bungie does not plan further content updates, but may still issue hotfixes for the game's health and stability.
