Description Nestled deep in the mountains of the EDZ, Scorn lay claim to a Dark Age Castle containing dangerous relics, and a blighted vengeance festers in the dirt.

Warlord's Ruin is a dungeon introduced in Season of the Wish. It is set in a Dark Age castle in the European Dead Zone, where players investigate Scorn activity and confront a Taken corruption tied to an Ahamkara threat.

Overview

Players begin at the base of Windswept Crag, climbing a snowy mountain path to reach an ancient fortress. The dungeon features three major boss encounters, numerous traps, and hidden secrets, including collectible Ahamkara Bones that unlock lore entries. The primary mechanic involves cleansing Scorn Lanterns to gain the Naeem's Wish Empowerment buff, which enables damage phases against bosses.

The Climb

The snowy path to the fortress.
Players start at the base of Windswept Crag, following a linear path marked by red flags through snowy cliffs. The route involves minor platforming and combat against Scorn enemies, including Tarnished Ravagers. The path leads to a fortified outpost, where the first encounter begins.

Mysterious Challenger: Rathil, First Broken Knight of Fikrul

Rathil, First Broken Knight of Fikrul.
The first encounter introduces the core mechanic of cleansing Scorn Lanterns. Rathil, First Broken Knight of Fikrul is initially immune, summoning Scorn enemies and Scorn Lanterns with Taken Blights. The Imminent Wish timer (30 seconds) begins, and players are teleported into cages suspended above the arena. Each cage is surrounded by three Blighted Eyes, which must be shot to open the cage door before it ascends into deadly spikes.

Once free, players stand within the white circle around a Scorn Lantern for ~5 seconds to cleanse it, turning the Taken Blight into a blue glow. Cleansing multiple lanterns extends the Naeem's Wish Empowerment buff duration, which removes Rathil's immunity for a damage phase. Players repeat this cycle until Rathil is defeated. Recommended weapons include rocket launchers or swords like The Lament for close-quarters DPS.

Imprisoned!

The prison cell puzzle.
After defeating Rathil, players are teleported to a prison with locked cells. To escape, they must solve a puzzle involving six spinning gears visible from the cells. Two cells contain skeletons with tally marks (for example 2 and 4, totaling 6), indicating how many gears should spin clockwise (right hand) or counterclockwise (left hand). Shooting a gear once starts it spinning counterclockwise, twice stops it, and three times spins it clockwise. Weapons with thermal sights, like CALUS Mini-Tool, help locate gears. Once all gears are correctly set, shooting a glowing lever near a cell unlocks the doors, allowing players to collect loot and proceed.

Venture Deeper

Players navigate a maze filled with traps, including spike walls triggered by stepping in front of rectangular griddles and pits that require careful jumping. The maze leads to a cliffside path outside the castle, where players face Scorn and Hefnd's Vengeance, Blighted Chimaera's attacks. Loose rocks pose a falling hazard. After crossing a bridge and climbing through a sewer drain, players reach the castle bailey for the second encounter.

Secret Chest 1

One of the secret chest locations.
The first secret chest is located between the prison and the second encounter, with six possible locations, only one of which is real per run. Fake chests emit a blue glow after 5-10 seconds and spawn Screebs if opened. Locations include:
  • An alcove on the cliffside before the first encounter.
  • A hallway in the maze after climbing over rubble.
  • A room with Scorn enemies in the maze.
  • Inside the keep after crossing the bridge, up a staircase.
  • After exiting the cave post-second encounter, near a red flag.
  • In a doorway left of the large blight room with floating rocks.

Wailing Tempest: Locus of Wailing Grief

Locus of Wailing Grief.
The second encounter pits players against Locus of Wailing Grief, a Taken Ogre in the castle bailey. After shooting a central Taken Blight, the Ogre summons Blighted Eyes, which must be destroyed to trigger Imminent Wish and spawn two Scorn Broken Knights (Malaris, Second Broken Knight and Vrysiks, Third Broken Knight). These knights drop Scorn Lanterns upon death and may spawn additional ones if left alive briefly.

A snowstorm inflicts the Biting Cold debuff, which kills players at 10 stacks. Players can remove stacks by standing near torches along the arena's back wall, granting the Shelter From The Storm buff. After cleansing lanterns, Solar Charges spawn in the center, proportional to the number of lanterns cleansed. Players deposit these into four pyres around the Ogre to start the damage phase. During DPS, players must stand near a pyre to avoid Biting Cold and gain Naeem's Wish Empowerment. Each pyre lasts ~15 seconds, requiring rotation to the next pyre. Recommended weapons include rocket launchers and linear fusion rifles like Succession or The Eremite. The cycle repeats until the Ogre is defeated.

Secret Chest 2

After defeating the Ogre, players enter a room with six chests, one of which is real. The real chest does not glow blue after 5-10 seconds, while fake chests spawn Screebs. Open the non-glowing chest to claim loot.

Follow the Whispers

Players climb through icy ruins and a cliffside, avoiding falling rocks and navigating a room with a large Taken Blight surrounded by floating rocks. After entering a cave and fighting Scorn and Taken, players reach the summit, where a spiral of Ahamkara Bones orbits a Taken Blight, leading to the final encounter.

Vengeful Peak: Hefnd's Vengeance, Blighted Chimaera

File:Warlords Ruin Hefnd.jpg
Hefnd's Vengeance, Blighted Chimaera.
The final encounter occurs in a vertical arena with floating platforms. Players shoot a central Taken Blight to engage Hefnd's Vengeance, Blighted Chimaera, a Taken Chimera. The fight follows the familiar cycle: destroy Blighted Eyes to trigger Imminent Wish and spawn two Broken Knights (Nymeks, Fourth Broken Knight and Sirloks, Fifth Broken Knight), who drop Scorn Lanterns. Cleansing lanterns grants Naeem's Wish Empowerment for DPS.

A new mechanic, Hex of Vengeful Corruption, appears during lantern cleansing. This 15-second debuff kills players if not removed by meleeing a Corrupted Hex-Drinker. These enemies can return the debuff if they melee back, so players should use ranged melee abilities (for example Celestial Fire) or keep distance. After each damage phase, the Chimera ascends to a higher platform if sufficient damage is dealt, requiring players to climb using floating platforms. This repeats for three levels.

At the fourth level, three platforms surround the boss. Each platform grants Naeem's Wish Empowerment for DPS, extended by destroying Blighted Eyes. When the message "My hide is thick, O vengeance mine" appears, players rotate to another platform. After all three are used, players are teleported to the bottom to repeat the cycle. When the Chimera's health reaches the final stand threshold, players are teleported to an open platform for a final DPS phase with indefinite Naeem's Wish Empowerment. Balance DPS and clearing Blighted Eyes to avoid overwhelming damage.

Quell the Corruption

After defeating the Chimera, players collect loot and an Ahamkara Bone, completing the dungeon. The first completion unlocks the In the Shadow of the Mountain quest, requiring multiple runs to collect additional Ahamkara Bones for lore entries.
