Overview
"The Other Side" is a secret Exotic mission discovered in the Tribute Hall aboard the Leviathan when the player places a total of 18 tributes. The mission is found within the center of the Tribute Hall in a glass case containing a Bird Skull (or projection of the Pulse Rifle when completed) once all 5 Royal Beast tributes are placed (final one is unlocked with 18 Tributes Placed, including the Beasts themselves).[1]
Completing this mission awards the player the Bad Juju Exotic Pulse Rifle, a returning weapon from the original Destiny. Bad Juju features the perk "String of Curses," which allows it to fire in full auto, automatically reload upon kills, increase damage, and provide super energy.[2]
Accessing the Mission
Prerequisites
To access "The Other Side" mission, Guardians must first:
- Obtain the "Imperial Invitation" quest from Werner 99-40 on his barge in the Watcher's Grave area of Nessus.
- Travel to the Tribute Hall (accessible from the Nessus destination map, next to the Menagerie).
- Complete a Champion Bounty from the Visage of Calus.
- Place a total of 18 tributes in the Tribute Hall.[3]
Starting the Mission
Once the 18th tribute is placed, the glass case in the center of the Tribute Hall will become accessible. When the player interacts with it, they are knocked back, and an Ascendant Portal opens above the casing. Entering this portal transports the Guardian to the Ascendant Realm version of the Leviathan.[1]
Mission Walkthrough
First Encounter: Throne Room
The mission begins with the player appearing in the Ascendant Realm, where Toland, the Shattered awaits at a doorway. Upon approaching Toland, he greets the Guardian with the quote:
"Paracausality! What a trip. If you believe your weapon wants to murder all existence, then so it will. Call it a little bad juju, if you please..."[1]
The player then follows Toland to an Ascendant version of Calus' Throne Room, where they are ambushed by a Taken squad led by a Ravenous Taken Knight. After eliminating the squad and destroying a Revenant Shrieker positioned above the Throne itself, the Taken Barrier where players would typically progress after defeating Calus in the Leviathan Raid dissipates, revealing the broken landscape of the Ascendant Leviathan.[1]
Second Encounter: The Abyss
Players must progress through a floating abyss, navigating the fragmented architecture while fighting various Taken forces attempting to prevent the Guardian from reaching their goal. The platforming in this section is reminiscent of other Ascendant Realm locations, with broken and floating pieces of the Leviathan connected by narrow paths.[3]
Third Encounter: Pleasure Gardens
Eventually, players reach an Ascendant version of the Pleasure Gardens from the Leviathan raid. Upon entering, Guardians are greeted by a haunting howl and attacked by swarms of Shadowbeasts (Taken versions of the War Beasts from the original Pleasure Gardens).[1][2]
To progress, players must:
- Destroy four Taken Blights scattered throughout the area
- Defeat waves of Taken enemies including Ravenous Taken Minotaurs and Ravenous Taken Wizards
- Confront and defeat Graam, Born of the Hellmouth (a powerful Taken Ogre)
Once all enemies are eliminated, the Taken Barrier leading to the final area will disappear.[2]
Final Encounter: The Castellum
The final area resembles the Castellum from the Leviathan raid. In the center of this area, a spectral entity hovers, and players are instructed to "feed the essence." Here, Cabal and Taken forces are engaged in battle, and the Guardian must eliminate hundreds of enemies until the final boss, a powerful Taken Centurion, appears.[2]
After defeating the Taken Centurion, the mission is complete. Players return through the portal to the Tribute Hall, where they can claim the Bad Juju Exotic Pulse Rifle from the center dais.[2]
Triumphs
Completing "The Other Side" mission awards progress toward the following Triumphs:
- The Other Side - Complete "The Other Side" mission.
- Alone and Without Sound - Complete "The Other Side" mission solo without dying.[3]
Rewards
Upon completing "The Other Side" mission, players receive:
- Bad Juju (Exotic Pulse Rifle)
Bad Juju Catalyst
To obtain the Bad Juju Catalyst, players must place a total of 45 tributes in the Tribute Hall. The catalyst can then be purchased from the Visage of Calus.[2]
Notes
- Unlike some other Exotic missions such as "The Whisper" or "Zero Hour", "The Other Side" does not have a time limit.
- The mission has no darkness zones, making it more forgiving for solo players.
- The recommended Power Level for the mission is 350, making it accessible to most players.
- The mission can be replayed as an adventure after initial completion.
- After the removal of the Tribute Hall and Leviathan with the Beyond Light expansion, this mission was later added to the Exotic Mission Rotator in Season 22.[4]
