The Broodhold is a Strike that was located on the Tangled Shore. Originally a PlayStation 4 exclusive, it became available on all platforms one year after Forsaken's release. The strike was removed from the game and placed in the Destiny Content Vault with the release of The Witch Queen.

Overview

Guardians must breach the Tangled Shore's crashed Hive warship and destroy the nest inside to drive the Hive out of the Shore. The strike features In Anânh, Brood Queen as the final boss and introduces a unique worm-based mechanic for progression.

Walkthrough

Hellrise Canyon

Upon spawning, Guardians proceed toward Hellrise Canyon. Sparrows can be summoned to navigate quickly through initial Hive forces. Players encounter a battle between House of Dusk Fallen and Savathûn's Brood, including:

Worm Mechanic

The strike's core mechanic involves defeating special Hive enemies called Brood Hosts. When killed, they drop worms that must be deposited at specific barriers to progress. This mechanic appears multiple times throughout the strike.

Navigation Hazards

The strike features several environmental dangers:

  • Dark purple spike traps that deal significant damage
  • Cursed Thrall in narrow passages
  • Falling damage from vertical drops

Boss Encounters

First Encounter

Players get their first glimpse of In Anânh, Brood Queen in a brief skirmish. After dealing enough damage, she retreats deeper into the nest, requiring players to follow through a vertical drop.

Bridge Section

A second encounter occurs at a bridge where players must damage the Brood Queen again to open the path forward. Players can ignore the Thrall swarm and proceed directly across once available.

Final Boss: In Anânh, Brood Queen

The final encounter begins after depositing a final worm. Key mechanics include:

  • Void Fire Attack - The Brood Queen creates explosive void fire that requires players to take cover
  • Spike Trap Attack - Area denial attack requiring constant movement
  • Shade Summoning - In Anânh dispatches a Shade of herself that must be defeated
  • Flame Traps - The Shade covers the floor with flame traps, forcing confrontation

Strategies

  • Explosive cylinders throughout the strike can be shot for area damage
  • The Brood Queen's attacks are telegraphed, allowing for predictable movement patterns
  • Maintaining distance during the explosive attack phase is crucial
  • The strike counts as two boss kills (Brood Queen and her Shade) for bounty completion

Nightfall Modifiers

When featured as a Nightfall, The Broodhold could include:

  • Champions - Barrier and Unstoppable champions
  • Match Game - Shields require matching element types
  • Equipment Locked - Loadouts cannot be changed after starting

Trivia

  • The Broodhold is the second strike in Destiny 2 to feature a Hive Wizard as a strike boss, following Strange Terrain
  • The strike was particularly efficient for farming Hive kills, containing over 100 Hive enemies
  • It was one of the faster strikes for completing bounties and objectives
