Valor is a ranking system in Destiny 2's Crucible that tracks player progression through non-competitive PvP activities. Unlike the competitive Glory rank, Valor can only increase and never decreases from losses, making it accessible to players of all skill levels.

Overview

Introduced in the Warmind expansion, Valor serves as the primary progression system for casual Crucible play. The system rewards consistent participation over pure skill, allowing all players to earn rewards through regular PvP engagement. Valor is account-wide, meaning progress is shared across all characters.

Rank Structure

Rank Tiers

Valor uses a six-tier system with 16 total sub-ranks:

Rank Sub-Ranks Points Required
Guardian I, II, III 0-599
Brave I, II, III 600-1,799
Heroic I, II, III 1,800-3,499
Fabled I, II, III 3,500-5,449
Mythic I, II, III 5,450-9,999
Legend Single Rank 10,000

Point Requirements

  • Total points to Legend: 10,000
  • Points are earned for both wins and losses
  • Wins grant significantly more points than losses

Earning Valor

Eligible Activities

Valor is earned in non-competitive Crucible playlists:

  • Quickplay (Control)
  • Rumble
  • Team Scorched
  • Momentum Control
  • Mayhem
  • Rotating weekly playlists
  • Iron Banner (when active)
  • Crucible Labs

Activity Streak System

The Activity Streak system replaced the previous Win Streak system:

  • Streaks build by playing consecutive Crucible matches
  • Different playlist types maintain the same streak
  • Maximum streak bonus: 5x
  • Leaving Crucible for other activities resets the streak
  • Losses do not break streaks

Point Values

Base values (without streaks):

  • Win: 15-20 points (varies by game mode)
  • Loss: 5-10 points
  • 5-Streak Win: Up to 100+ points

Double Valor Events

Bungie periodically activates Double Valor weeks:

  • All point gains are doubled
  • Streak bonuses are also doubled
  • Often coincides with Iron Banner weeks
  • Provides the fastest progression opportunity

Time Investment
