Equipment that can drop from any activity in the system.
—In-game description

World Gear refers to the pool of Legendary and Exotic weapons and armor in Destiny 2 that are not tied to specific activities or destinations. This general loot pool provides equipment through various gameplay activities rather than targeted farming.

Overview

The World Gear system encompasses all weapons and armor that drop randomly throughout the game world, distinct from activity-specific loot such as Raid weapons or seasonal gear. This system ensures players can acquire equipment through general gameplay without being required to complete specific challenging content.

Drop Sources

World Gear can be obtained from multiple sources:

Legendary World Pool

Current Pool Rotation

As of Season of the Wish, the world pool contains:

  • Legendary foundry weapons from Season 20 to current season
  • Various armor sets for each class
  • Weapons not tied to specific activities

Pool Management

The world loot pool operates on a rotation system:

  • Older weapons (Seasons 16-19) moved to Banshee-44's Gunsmith Engram pool
  • Each season, newer weapons rotate into Banshee's inventory
  • Weapons become available for Focused Decoding after rotation

Exotic World Pool

Exotic Engrams provide access to the Exotic world pool:

  • Prioritizes items not yet in player's Collections
  • Exotic weapons drop only once per account
  • Duplicate Exotic armor drops with random stat rolls
  • All world pool Exotics available through Xûr's weekly inventory

Vendor Interactions

Several vendors interact with the World Gear system:

Ada-1

  • Sells one Legendary world armor set per class
  • Inventory rotates weekly
  • Provides armor focusing options

Banshee-44

  • Maintains older world pool weapons (Seasons 16-19)
  • Daily "Featured" selection includes pre-Season 16 weapons
  • Gunsmith Engrams contain rotated world pool items

Xûr

  • Weekly Exotic vendor
  • Offers one Exotic weapon
  • Sells one Exotic armor piece per class
  • Inventory drawn from world pool

Master Rahool

  • Primary cryptarch for engram decryption
  • Decrypts Prime Engrams into world pool gear
  • Handles all Legendary Engram conversions

Advantages and Limitations

Advantages

  • No skill barriers or activity requirements
  • Available through regular gameplay
  • Provides gear variety for all players
  • Ensures baseline equipment accessibility

Limitations

  • Cannot target specific items effectively
  • Random drop rates make farming difficult
  • Limited control over stat distributions
  • Diluted pool reduces specific drop chances

Seasonal Updates

The world pool updates each season:

  • New foundry weapons added
  • Older items rotated to vendor pools
  • Seasonal armor sets introduced
  • Balance adjustments implemented

Strategies

  • Complete activities with multiple reward drops
  • Decrypt Prime Engrams promptly
  • Check vendor inventories weekly
  • Save Exotic Engrams until missing specific items
  • Focus on Legend/Master Lost Sectors for targeted slots

Trivia
