How to Obtain

Void Damage Mod was a weapon mod in Destiny 2 that allowed players to change a weapon's elemental damage type to Void. This mod has since been deprecated and removed from the game.

Overview

The Void Damage Mod was part of the original weapon modification system in Destiny 2, introduced at launch. It served two primary functions: converting a weapon's damage type to Void and providing a small Power level increase. This system was eventually replaced with more comprehensive mod systems in later updates.

Effects

When applied to a weapon, the Void Damage Mod provided:

  • Changed the weapon's elemental damage type to Void
  • Increased the weapon's Power level by 5
  • Allowed the weapon to break Void-shielded enemies more effectively
  • Enabled Void-specific bounty and quest progress

Usage

The mod could be applied to:

Primary weapons could not use elemental damage mods, as they were restricted to Kinetic damage during this era of the game.

Acquisition

During its availability, the Void Damage Mod could be obtained from:

  • Banshee-44, the Tower Gunsmith
  • Dismantling weapons with the mod already applied
  • Random drops from activities
  • Bright Engrams (rarely)

Deprecation

The Void Damage Mod was deprecated with the release of Forsaken, when Bungie overhauled the weapon modification system. The deprecation occurred because:

  • The new mod system removed elemental damage conversion
  • Weapons began dropping with fixed elemental affinities
  • The Power level increase became obsolete with the new infusion system

Players who still possessed these mods received the message: "This mod has been deprecated. Dismantle to clear space and reclaim useful components."

Current Void Damage Systems

While the Void Damage Mod no longer exists, Void damage enhancement in current Destiny 2 includes:

Armor Mods

Void 3.0 Effects

The Void 3.0 update introduced various Void-specific effects:

  • Weaken: 15% damage debuff on affected targets
  • Volatile: Explosive void damage that spreads to nearby enemies
  • Suppression: Disables abilities and stuns Overload Champions

Legacy

The Void Damage Mod represents an early iteration of Destiny 2's modification system. Its removal marked a shift toward:

  • More specialized and build-focused mod systems
  • Fixed elemental affinities on weapons
  • Separation of damage types and Power level progression

Trivia

  • Similar mods existed for Solar and Arc damage types
  • The 5 Power level increase was significant in early Destiny 2 when Power gains were more limited
  • Some veteran players kept deprecated mods as collectibles before they were forcibly removed
