Sentry Synth
Attributes

Sentry Synth is a consumable item in Destiny 2 that was introduced during Season of the Drifter. It is used to create Sentry armor and activate perks related to the Sentry role in Gambit Prime.

Overview

Sentry Synths are one of four types of synths available in the Gambit Prime and The Reckoning game modes. The Sentry Synth is specifically designed for players who specialize in defending the bank, clearing Taken Blockers, and hunting enemy Invaders.

Usage

Creating Motes

The primary use of Sentry Synths is to create Sentry Motes using a Synthesizer:

These motes are then wagered in The Reckoning activity to earn Sentry armor pieces with role-specific perks.

Direct Consumption

Players can consume a Sentry Synth directly from their inventory to receive:

  • A 30-minute buff that grants +3 to the Sentry armor set bonus
  • This allows access to the first Sentry perk without wearing any armor pieces
  • Multiple synths can be consumed to extend the buff duration

Acquisition

Sentry Synths can be obtained through several methods:

Guaranteed Sources

  • Completing daily Gambit Prime bounties from The Drifter
  • Random drops from completing Gambit Prime matches
  • Rewards for completing The Reckoning (when not wagering your own mote)

Performance-Based Rewards

In Gambit Prime, Sentry Synths are awarded for specific Sentry-role actions:

  • Defeating multiple Blockers quickly
  • Eliminating invading Guardians
  • Protecting teammates who are carrying Motes

Sentry Role

The Sentry role in Gambit Prime focuses on:

  • Defending the bank from enemy Blockers
  • Protecting teammates from Invaders
  • Supporting the team during Primeval damage phases
  • Acting as a multi-tasking fixer for various team needs

Associated Perks

When combined with Sentry armor pieces, the following role perks become available:

+3 Points: Umbral Strike

  • Grants a stacking damage buff against Taken enemies (up to 5x)
  • Particularly effective against Blockers and the Primeval

+6 Points: Safe and Sound

  • Provides health regeneration when standing near the bank
  • Useful for sustaining through Blocker damage and Primeval phases

+10 Points: Invader Tracker

  • Marks invading enemies for all teammates to see
  • Critical for coordinating team response to invasions

+15 Points: Light of the Defender

  • Grants maximum Resilience, Mobility, and Recovery to the Sentry and nearby allies while in the Well of Light
  • Creates a powerful support presence during crucial moments

Armor Tiers

Sentry armor comes in three tiers, each providing different point values:

  • Illicit Armor: 1 point per piece (Tier 1)
  • Outlawed Armor: 2 points per piece (Tier 2)
  • Notorious Armor: 3 points per piece (Tier 3)

Strategy

Effective Sentry play involves:

  • Positioning near the bank during mote collection phases
  • Quickly identifying and eliminating Blockers to prevent mote drain
  • Calling out Invader locations to teammates
  • Supporting damage phases with Umbral Strike stacks

Sunset Status

With the removal of Gambit Prime and The Reckoning in Beyond Light, Sentry Synths are no longer obtainable or usable in the current version of Destiny 2. The role system was discontinued when Gambit and Gambit Prime were merged into a single playlist.

Trivia

  • Sentry Synths had a yellow color scheme to match the Sentry role's visual identity
  • The Sentry was considered the most defensive and supportive of the four Gambit Prime roles
  • Many players combined Sentry armor with Ward of Dawn or Well of Radiance for maximum team support
