Kell's Fall is an Exotic Mission introduced in Episode: Revenant Act III for Destiny 2. The mission tasks Guardians with storming Fikrul, the Fanatic's Revenant Fortress on the Tangled Shore, representing House Light as Mithrax's champion in a duel to determine the next Kell of Kells. Completing the mission rewards the Slayer's Fang Exotic Shotgun.
The mission features three different variants—Reflection, Distortion, and Diffraction—each with different final bosses and unique dialogue, unlocked sequentially throughout the Revenant storyline.
Overview
Kell's Fall serves as the primary activity for Episode: Revenant Act III, which launched on January 7, 2025. The mission takes place in the Revenant Fortress on the Tangled Shore, a location not seen since the Forsaken expansion.[1]
The narrative revolves around Eido's quest to create a lethal tonic capable of permanently killing Fikrul and ending his reign of terror. Guardians must raid the Revenant Fortress multiple times to collect components needed for the tonic, such as the Hangman's Flail and the Scorned Organist's resonant pipe.[2]
Like other Exotic Missions, Kell's Fall features two difficulty options:
- Standard - Power Cap: 1955, with elemental surges and threats active
- Expert - Power Cap: 2015, with additional challenges including Overload and Unstoppable Champions[3]
Variants
Kell's Fall has three variants that players must complete sequentially as part of the Revenant storyline:
Reflection
The first variant of the mission that players encounter. After defeating Fikrul's forces and completing the mission's mechanics, players face Reksis Vahn, the Hangman as the final boss. Defeating him rewards the Slayer's Fang Exotic Shotgun.[4]
Distortion
The second variant becomes available after completing Reflection and advancing in the Revenant storyline. While the mission layout remains mostly the same, players face the Scorned Organist as the final boss. This run allows players to access more secrets and obtain Slayer's Fang upgrades.[5]
Diffraction
The final variant of the mission and the conclusive chapter of the Revenant storyline. Players face Fikrul, the Fanatic directly as the final boss. Using a stake-like item created by Eido and the Apothecary, Guardians can inject Fikrul's heart with a tonic that turns his Dark Ether to Light, making him mortal and allowing for a final confrontation.[5]
Mission Walkthrough
Introduction
Guardians transmat onto a barge of asteroids on the Tangled Shore leading to the Revenant Fortress, where dozens of Revenant Scorn are watching. Players' weapons are disabled as they traverse a path toward the fortress. The Crow and Mithrax provide dialogue via comms, with Mithrax explaining that Fikrul wants to be seen defeating his champion to claim the title of Kell of Kells.[6]
The Gatehouse
Upon reaching the Gatehouse, players regain weapon functionality. Araskes, the Trickster ambushes the player with Scorn forces. Players must deplete about a third of the Trickster's health to make her retreat, being careful to avoid counterfeit Heavy ammo drops that explode.[6][1]
The Bailey
After the Trickster retreats, players enter the fortress to find a massive pipe organ. While this organ plays a key role in unlocking secrets and upgrades for the Slayer's Fang in subsequent runs, first-time players should proceed left and light a brazier to open the door to the Mirror Gallery.[4]
Mirror Gallery
This area introduces players to the central mechanic of the mission: traveling between the material plane and the Revenant Plane using cracked mirror portals. Players must shoot debris to reveal the first mirror portal, then enter it to learn the mechanics of the alternate dimension.[6]
The Fighting Pit
In this arena, players face their first major encounter. Two invulnerable Abomination enemies appear, which cannot be damaged normally. Players must:[1][4]
- Enter the mirror portal in the arena
- Defeat Revenant Essentia (Weaver) enemies to collect Revenant Essence motes
- Gather 10 stacks to receive the "Revenant Empowerment" buff
- Return to the material plane and defeat the now-vulnerable Abominations
- Face and defeat Kaniks, the Mad Bomber, who spawns after the Abominations fall
The Undercroft
After defeating the Mad Bomber, players must navigate a challenging platforming section with moving turbines and suspended platforms.[7]
The Sanctum
This area hosts the second major encounter against Hiraks, the Mindbender. The fight has three phases:[8]
- Deplete 1/3 of Hiraks' health in the mirror dimension
- Return to the material plane, light three braziers (one in the material plane and two in the mirror dimension) to continue damaging the boss
- Return to the mirror dimension for the final phase and defeat Hiraks before the timer expires
The Staircase
After defeating Hiraks, players ascend a spiral staircase where they encounter the Trickster again. Players must defeat her to open the doors to the throne room.[1]
If playing the Distortion or Diffraction variants, players must also interact with the Apothecary, who is locked up before the staircase.[5]
Throne Room
In the final encounter, players face one of three bosses depending on which variant of the mission they're playing:
- Reflection: Reksis Vahn, the Hangman
- Distortion: Scorned Organist or the Screeb Matriarch
- Diffraction: Fikrul, the Fanatic
The mechanics remain consistent across variants:[1][4][7]
- Clear enemies until Fikrul begins a wipe mechanic
- Enter the mirror portal to avoid the attack
- Collect Revenant Empowerment (10 stacks) by defeating enemies in the mirror dimension
- Return to the material plane to face the boss
- Defeat the boss to complete the mission
Upon completing the Reflection variant for the first time, players receive the Slayer's Fang Exotic Shotgun.
Rewards
Main Rewards
- Slayer's Fang - Exotic Void Shotgun
- Tonic Supplies
- Vintage Kell's Fall Weaponry
- Enriching Powder
- Seasonal Experience and Artifacts[2]
Slayer's Fang
The Slayer's Fang is an Exotic Void Shotgun with unique perks:
- Nightsworn Sight: Dealing final blows to targets grants Nightsworn Sight. During that time, final blows grant Truesight, ammo slowly reloads from reserves, and submunitions weaken targets.
- Heart Piercer: Rounds from this weapon shatter into submunitions on impact. Strong against Overload Champions.[9]
Catalysts
Four catalysts are available for the Slayer's Fang, obtained by completing the "Revenant Slayer I-IV" quests from Eido and finding Illusory Anchors throughout the Kell's Fall mission on Expert difficulty:[10]
- Repulsor Brace: Obtained by breaking the three Illusory Anchors in the Mirror Gallery.
- Loose Change: Obtained by breaking the three Illusory Anchors in the Fighting Pit.
- Stats for All: Obtained by breaking the three Illusory Anchors in the Sanctum during the Mindbender encounter.
- Fourth catalyst: Obtained by breaking the three Illusory Anchors in the Throne Room.[11]
Intrinsic Upgrades
Players can also unlock intrinsic upgrades for Slayer's Fang by entering specific codes on the pipe organ found at the start of the mission and completing related puzzles:[12]
- Nightsworn Sight II: Unlocked by entering code 2-11-1-10-7-6 on the organ, which opens a door to the right side.
- Nightsworn Sight IV: Unlocked by entering code 1-8-1-6, which opens a door in the Vestibule area and requires lighting three braziers.[3]
Secrets
Pipe Organ Codes
The pipe organ located in the Bailey area has 13 keys, each corresponding to a number from 1-13, left to right. Various codes can be entered by shooting the notes while standing on the central panel:[3]
- 2-11-1-10-7-6: Opens a door on the right side of the organ, leading to the Nightsworn Sight II upgrade.
- 1-4-11-1-4-10: Opens a door in the mirror dimension at the Mirror Gallery.
- 1-8-1-6: Opens a door in the Vestibule near the rally point before the Mindbender fight, leading to the Nightsworn Sight IV upgrade.
- 1-8-1-9: Displays the message "The melody twists your stomach in knots. You've made a terrible mistake."
- 1-8-4-11-1-6-4-10: Unlocks a sad shrine for Crow/Uldren in the jumping puzzle.
Illusory Anchors
Illusory Anchors are hidden objects scattered throughout the mission that can only be revealed by aiming down sights with the Slayer's Fang. They appear as translucent Hive Shrieker-like objects and emit distinctive chimes when nearby. Breaking all anchors in each area and completing the mission on Expert difficulty awards catalyst perks for the Slayer's Fang.[13]
Trivia
- Kell's Fall takes place in the Revenant Fortress on the Tangled Shore, marking a return to this location that had been previously removed from the game with the launch of The Witch Queen expansion.[14]
- The mission features a related activity called "Kell's Vengeance" that brings back Skolas from the original Destiny as a Scorned boss within the Prison of Elders.[15]
- The mission's pipe organ mechanic is reminiscent of other musical puzzles in Destiny 2, such as the ones found in the Deep Stone Crypt raid and Grasp of Avarice dungeon.
