Basic (also known as Common) is the lowest Rarity tier in Destiny 2, indicated by a white background color on item icons.

Overview
Basic or Common gear represents the starting equipment tier in Destiny 2. These items are primarily found during early game progression and serve as entry-level equipment for new Guardians. All low-level items begin at Common rarity, making them the foundation of a Guardian's initial arsenal.
Characteristics
Visual Identification
- Color: White background on item icons
- Icon Border: Simple, unadorned border
- Name Color: White text
Item Properties
- Perks: No additional perks or upgrades available
- Customization: Cannot be modified or upgraded
- Power Level: Can vary, sometimes higher than rarer items during leveling
- Damage Type: All Common weapons deal Kinetic damage (except Fusion Rifles)

Dismantling
When dismantled, Basic items yield:
- Small amount of Glimmer
- No crafting materials
- No enhancement cores or other rare materials
Usage and Strategy
Early Game
- Essential for initial character progression
- Provides baseline stats for new players
- Frequently replaced during leveling process
Mid to Late Game
- Generally dismantled immediately for Glimmer
- Not viable for endgame content
- May occasionally drop with higher Power Level than current gear
Rarity Hierarchy
Basic gear sits at the bottom of Destiny 2's rarity hierarchy:
- Basic/Common (White) - Current tier
- Uncommon (Green)
- Rare (Blue)
- Legendary (Purple)
- Exotic (Gold/Yellow)
Notes
- Common Engrams stop dropping at higher character levels
- Despite lower rarity, Basic items can sometimes have higher Power Levels than rarer items
- The simplicity of Basic gear makes it ideal for new players learning game mechanics
- Cannot be infused or upgraded like higher-tier equipment
