Arc Damage Mod was a Weapon Mod in Destiny 2 that allowed players to change a weapon's elemental damage type to Arc while increasing its Power Level by 5. This mod has since been removed from the game.

Overview

The Arc Damage Mod was available in both Rare and Legendary variants during the early days of Destiny 2[1][2]. It served as one of three elemental damage conversion mods, alongside Solar Damage Mod and Void Damage Mod, allowing players to customize their weapons' elemental affinities.

Function

When applied to a weapon, the Arc Damage Mod would:

  • Convert the weapon's damage type to Arc
  • Increase the weapon's Power Level by 5
  • Allow the weapon to break Arc shields more effectively
  • Enable Arc-specific synergies with subclasses and armor mods

Removal from Game

The Arc Damage Mod, along with other elemental damage conversion mods, was removed from Destiny 2 as part of various weapon system overhauls. This change was implemented to streamline the mod system and because weapons began dropping with fixed elemental damage types that could not be changed[3][4].

Current Arc Damage Options

While the Arc Damage Mod no longer exists, players can still interact with Arc damage through:

Arc Resistance

Arc Resistance is a Basic Chest Armor Mod that reduces incoming Arc damage from combatants:

  • 1 mod: 15% damage reduction
  • 2 mods: 25% damage reduction (with diminishing returns)
  • 3 mods: 30% damage reduction (with further diminishing returns)[5]

Note: Some sources report different values (5% per mod), suggesting possible changes over time or differences between PvE and PvP[6].

Fixed Elemental Weapons

Modern Destiny 2 weapons drop with predetermined elemental damage types that cannot be changed. Players must collect different versions of weapons if they want specific elemental types.

Legacy Impact

The removal of elemental damage conversion mods represented a significant shift in Destiny 2's weapon customization philosophy. While it reduced player flexibility in some ways, it also:

  • Simplified the mod system
  • Made weapon drops more meaningful
  • Encouraged players to maintain diverse arsenals
  • Reduced the complexity of weapon optimization

Current Damage Resistance Options

The modern armor mod system includes various damage resistance options[7]:

  • Elemental Resistance Mods: Arc, Solar, and Void Resistance (Chest armor)
  • Concussive Dampener: Reduces Area of Effect damage
  • Sniper Damage Resistance: Reduces damage from enemies beyond 29m
  • Melee Damage Resistance: Reduces damage from enemies within 4m

Stacking Mechanics

Damage resistance mods stack multiplicatively with diminishing returns[8]:

  • Same mod stacking provides diminishing returns
  • Different resistance sources stack more efficiently
  • Resilience stat provides up to 30% damage resistance in PvE

Trivia

  • The Arc Damage Mod was part of the original Destiny 2 mod system at launch
  • Its removal coincided with the general move away from player-controlled elemental damage types
  • The +5 Power Level bonus was significant in early Destiny 2 when Power progression was slower
