Description No mod currently selected.

Empty Mod Socket is a placeholder that appears in armor and weapon mod slots in Destiny 2 when no mod has been equipped.

Overview

The Empty Mod Socket serves as a visual indicator in the game's user interface, showing players that a mod slot is available for customization but currently has nothing selected. It is not an actual mod that provides any benefits, but rather represents the absence of a mod in that particular slot.

Function

Empty Mod Sockets appear in various equipment pieces:

When viewing gear with available mod slots, players will see "Empty Mod Socket" in any slot that does not have a mod equipped. Players can select and equip various mods in these empty slots to customize their loadout and gain specific benefits.

Armor Mod System

The presence of Empty Mod Sockets is tied to Destiny 2's armor mod system:

  • Armor 2.0: Legendary armor pieces obtained after the Shadowkeep expansion typically have multiple mod slots available
  • Legacy Armor: Older armor pieces (Armor 1.0) may have limited mod slots or use a different mod system
  • Energy Requirements: Each mod requires a certain amount of energy to equip, and armor pieces have limited energy capacity

Notes

  • Empty Mod Sockets have no energy cost as they are not actual mods
  • The number of available mod slots varies by armor piece and rarity
  • Some legacy equipment may show Empty Mod Socket as the only available option if it hasn't been updated to current systems
