Charge Rate (more commonly referred to as Charge Time) is a weapon stat in Destiny 2 that determines how long Fusion Rifles, Linear Fusion Rifles, and Combat Bows (as Draw Time) must charge or be drawn before firing. This stat is inversely proportional to the weapon's Impact value.

Overview

Charge Rate represents a fundamental trade-off in weapon design: faster-charging weapons deal less damage per shot but offer higher rates of fire, while slower-charging weapons deliver more impact at the cost of reduced firing speed. Understanding charge time is crucial for optimizing DPS and selecting appropriate weapons for different combat scenarios.

Mechanics

Measurement

  • Expressed in milliseconds (ms)
  • 500 charge time = 0.5 seconds
  • 900 charge time = 0.9 seconds
  • Lower values = faster charging

Stat Relationships

Inverse Relationships

  • High Charge Time ↔ High Impact
  • Low Charge Time ↔ Low Impact
  • Charge Time ↔ RPM (inversely)

Internal Calculation

  • Based on Charge Time Rating
  • Low Rating = Long charge time
  • High Rating = Short charge time
  • Modified by perks and masterworks

Weapon Type Ranges

Charge Time vs. DPS

Calculation Factors

  • Damage per shot
  • Charge time
  • Reload time
  • Magazine size

Optimal Balance

  • Activity dependent
  • Target type matters
  • Ammo economy
  • Team composition

Common Misconceptions

  • Lower number = slower (opposite true)
  • All fusions same range (varies)
  • Charge time = DPS (complex relationship)
  • Draw time identical mechanic (similar but distinct)
