5 Crucible Token was a consumable item in Destiny 2 that provided players with five Crucible Tokens when consumed. This item was part of the token-based reputation system that was removed from the game with the launch of Season of the Chosen on February 9, 2021.

Description

The 5 Crucible Token bundle was obtained through the Gift of Crucible Tokens consumable, which players received at the conclusion of Crucible matches when any participant had activated a Boon of the Crucible. When consumed, it would grant the player exactly five Crucible Tokens.

Function

Token System

Crucible Tokens were the primary currency for gaining reputation with Lord Shaxx, the Crucible vendor in the Tower. Players needed 20 tokens to gain one reputation level with Lord Shaxx, making each 5 Crucible Token bundle worth one-quarter of a reputation rank.

Usage

  • Players could redeem these tokens at Lord Shaxx in the Tower
  • Tokens were account-wide and could be used by any character
  • Each token turn-in would progress the player toward Crucible rank-up packages
  • Rank-up packages contained Crucible weapons and armor

Acquisition

The 5 Crucible Token bundle was primarily obtained through:

Removal from Game

The entire Crucible Token system, including the 5 Crucible Token consumable, was sunset with the arrival of Season of the Chosen (Season 13) on February 9, 2021. Bungie replaced the token system with a more straightforward reputation system where players could see their rewards before ranking up.

Players were warned in advance to spend all their Crucible Tokens before the season transition, as they would become obsolete items with no function after the change.

Legacy

The removal of the token system was part of a broader vendor rework that aimed to:

  • Simplify the reputation system
  • Provide more transparency in rewards
  • Reduce inventory clutter from multiple token types
  • Align Crucible progression with other vendor systems

After the removal, Crucible reputation gains were tied directly to match completions and performance, eliminating the need for tokens as an intermediate currency.
