Bound in Sorrow is a Legendary Quest. This quest follows the Season of the Haunted seasonal story, and unlocks the Sever missions.

Each week, the player collects 500 Vestiges of Dread, then completes tiers of the Nightmare Containment Public Event and binds the Vestiges to earn a Bound Presence as a reward. The player will then complete a Sever mission.

Completing the quest steps tied to each week of the season rewards Figments of Darkness and an Umbral Engram. It also makes progress on the Severance Triumph, which rewards a page of the Triage Lore book. The final step of the Triumph rewards the Tymbal Lucidae Exotic Ship. Each week also unlocks a radio message, which can be listened to at the console to the right of the Crown of Sorrow in the H.E.L.M. Listening to a radio message makes progress on the Ghost in the Machine Triumph, which rewards a page of the Voices of the Haunted Lore book.

Description

Gather Vestiges of Dread to power up your Nightmare Harvester.

Venture into the depths of the Leviathan in search of answers to Emperor Calus's return.

2. Bound in Sorrow

Description

Complete tiers of the Nightmare Containment public event within the Derelict Leviathan and bind your Vestiges of Dread at the Nightmare Harvester after completing the final tier to create a Bound Presence.

Each additional time you bind after completing the final tier has a chance to reward a Bound Presence.

In order to perform a ritual to sever Calus's connection to the lunar Pyramid, Eris has sent you on a mission to harvest the essence of Nightmares on the Leviathan and beyond. Destroy these creatures and contain their power for her spell.

3. Bound in Sorrow

Description

Team up with Crow to perform a ritual of severance aboard the Derelict Leviathan.

With the proper reagents prepared, Eris is ready to perform a ritual of severance to break Calus's connection to the lunar Pyramid. Journey into the Leviathan's Underbelly with Crow and defeat the Nightmare that awaits you there.

Description

Check in with Crow in the H.E.L.M.

Unable to overcome the shame of his past life, Crow has suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of the Nightmare of Uldren Sov. Find Crow in the H.E.L.M. and check in on him.

5. Bound in Sorrow

Description

Return to the Crown of Sorrow in the H.E.L.M. and debrief with Eris.

Following Crow's defeat during the ritual of severance, it is clear that severing Calus's connection to the lunar Pyramid will be harder than expected. It's time to return to the Crown of Sorrow and formulate a plan.

Description

Eris will contact you through the Crown of Sorrow once she has formulated a new plan, and encourages you to continue to explore the Derelict Leviathan and contain its Nightmares in the meantime.

This quest will progress at the next weekly reset.

Rushing into things will serve no one. Eris has recommended a path of temperance, and she will review the information she gained during the first severance attempt and determine a way to help Crow confront Uldren Sov. For now, the Nightmares on the Leviathan must be contained, lest they spread elsewhere.

Description

It's now or never. With counsel from you and Eris, Crow believes he is ready to confront the Nightmare of Uldren Sov and sever Calus's connection to the lunar Pyramid.

This is an unexpected victory. Eris has successfully performed a ritual of severance on Calus's connection to the lunar Pyramid, but that hold has not broken entirely. Eris needs time to study this new force you created from the Nightmare of Uldren Sov before she can advise on a further course of action. In the interim, it's best to help by containing the Nightmares aboard the Leviathan.

Description

Travel to the Underbelly of the Leviathan with Zavala to perform the ritual of severance.

Zavala is eager to get this ritual of severance over with. He refuses to talk about his experiences with his Nightmare, and wants to put this all behind him. Confident that you will succeed, he awaits the trip to the Underbelly of the Leviathan to bring this all to a close.

Description

Travel to the Tower and check in on Commander Zavala.

Zavala was unprepared for the emotional challenge of confronting his Nightmare. He withdrew to the Tower on Earth following the failed ritual and has refused to speak to anyone about what happened. Perhaps you'll have better luck.

Description

Speak to Eris in the H.E.L.M. about the Nightmare of Safiyah.

Zavala refused to discuss the details surrounding the Nightmare haunting him. Eris may hold the key to the truth needed in order to help Zavala through his pain and complete the ritual.

Description

Find Empress Caiatl somewhere in the Underbelly of the Leviathan.

Empress Caiatl has recklessly charged ahead into the Leviathan without the aid of Eris's protection magic. There, the empress intends to confront the Nightmare of Ghaul herself and sever Calus's connection to the Leviathan without the Vanguard's aid. Eris is not convinced that the empress will succeed and has dispatched you to find her before it's too late.

Eris Morn believes she has discovered a thread relating to Calus's plan for the lunar Pyramid. This investigation has led her back to the Moon, and she has summoned you to discuss this lead.

35. Bound in Sorrow

Description

Investigate the connection between the Derelict Leviathan and the Moon's Nightmares by completing the K1 Revelation Lost Sector in Sorrow's Harbor on the Moon.

Eris is concerned about Caiatl's failed severance and with Calus's heightened activity and influence across the Moon.

She has asked you to investigate a Lost Sector: K1 Revelation, which she believes is connected to Calus's schemes.

Eris warns that Xivu-loyal Hive are working in tandem with Calus to enact a ritual beneath the surface, but she has confidence in your abilities.

36. Bound in Sorrow

Description

Travel to the Pyramid deep in the Enduring Abyss, beneath the surface of the Moon.

After laying to rest the Nightmare of Arguth, the Tormented, Eris detected a psychic cry that called out to the Pyramid. She believes Calus has used the Hive's ritual and the relics unearthed here to restore a connection to the Pyramid after your successes severing his connections aboard the Leviathan.

Eris now directs you to make your way to the Pyramid to further the investigation.

• The Enduring Abyss can be reached by traveling north from Sorrow's Harbor, then taking the left door (rather than the right door from The Scarlet Keep strike). Continue through the area until you reach the cliff area overlooking the Pyramid. It is recommended to track the quest and follow the waypoint.

Description

Investigate the area near the lunar Pyramid for clues.

Locate the Pyramid in the Enduring Abyss through Sorrow's Harbor on the Moon.

Eris believes there must be a clue in the Enduring Abyss that will give the Vanguard a better understanding of exactly what Calus is trying to do with the lunar Pyramid.

Having completed your investigation on the Moon, you have uncovered a thread of Calus's plan for the lunar Pyramid. It is time to return to the H.E.L.M. and debrief with Eris on what you discovered.

It is a victory in name only. Though the Leviathan has stopped siphoning Nightmares from the Moon, there is no sign of any change within it or the Pyramid. Eris fears that she misjudged Calus's plans and suspects that there may yet be more to come. But until Calus plays his hand… we are all left to wait, and wonder.

Description

Board the Leviathan with Crow, Zavala, Caiatl, and Eris to stop Calus before it's too late.

Complete mission "Catharsis."

There's no time left. Calus threatens to activate the lunar Pyramid and only one final ritual can prevent him from accomplishing this goal. With the aid of Crow, Zavala, Caiatl, and Eris, you must storm the Leviathan and find the seat of Calus's power to bring an end to this situation before he can wield the power of the Pyramids.
